Besides their education and athletics, which is top in the state, ‘Iolani has unwavering support for their students and families. Kayla’s opportunity was supported by her team and coaches. She even went straight to the game in a suit! ‘Iolani played a great game. They will continue to, for many years to come, because of their hard work, dedication and great attitudes.

Together or apart, Raiders are always ONE TEAM.

Why is this unusual? I applaud the kid for knowing her priorities. Basketball is a game or hobby to some. A job is your life. It’s too bad more kids cannot see the bigger picture. And if she has an interview to be a pilot, that is not an interview you turn down.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics, BLS, reports that airline pilots earned an average of $118,070 per year in 2011. You have to imagine that 5-6 years later, those numbers must be way higher.

Congratulations to Kayla Malta for knowing her priorities and understanding her future is much more important than a high school basketball game.

I applaud you!

It’s good to see them playing well. I think they def have the tools to beat Kona. The Wildcats aren’t as deep and talented as they have been in the past years. Nevertheless, can’t count them out, that should be a great game. I can’t wait to see how good the Lunas have got since I saw them pre-season, with only 7 kids I would imagine their conditioning should be at the top of their game. I’m picking the Spartans all the way though, deepest bench in the state.

Iolani’s teams are always so stacked. But I don’t recall them ever winning a state title. And when was the last time they made states? It is 3-4 years? They bring their 1st or 2nd best player off the bench. She is like the 7th or 8th person in the rotation. That is just crazy.

Anyway congratulations to Kamehameha Girls. After their first lost of the season, then losing to Iolani early, the season didn’t look too good, especially with many parents complaining. But with them securing a state berth, and trending upwards, this is a team to beat and I could see them upsetting Kona in the semi finals.
