I know, the record will show the 1980 Prep Bowl between Iolani and Waianae ended in a 7-7 tie. But anyone who was there would have witnessed a butt whupping. Iolani pushed Waianae all over the field, both sides of the line of scrimmage, all game long. Final score easily could have been 24-0.

To honor the past, the 1980 Prep Bowl teams had head coaches Eddie Hamada of Iolani and Larry Ginoza of Waianae, both Iolani alumni. The Father Bray philosophy of “one team” was well represented to the prep fans, schools, and the state of Hawaii. If we could only create a HHSSAA future with a similar goal.
