This post season tourney is kind of a head scracher. The ILH wanted 2 teams in the Open division correct? Won’t they still cancel 1 out of the championship game if they are considered the #2 and #3 best teams in the state and be seeded that way? Idk

IRT Hau’ulaBoy, I think we agree, but, my understanding is that the ILH asked the schools to declare their status before the season started. St.Louis, Punahou, and Kamehameha declared Open; Iolani declared Div 1; St.Francis, Pac-5, and Damien declared Div 2. Given that, Iolani’s entry into the Div 1 State Tournament was automatic. It is what it is. The OIA apparently wanted to let their post season tournament decide who goes where. The top 4 go to the Open, the second 4 go to Div 1. In hindsight, if they made the teams declare, I think Mililani would have declared Open and would be out of the tournament with last week’s loss. Again, I think we’re saying the same thing.

@Islandstyl: I dont think people are complaining thaht Iolani is D1, I think most people are complaining because of the automatic bid into the State Tournament.

Not long ago people complained that Iolani should be D1. Now that they are D1 the same people are complaining that Iolani is in D1. Make up your minds.

Just play the damn game. The best will separate themselves.

In the history of the State tournement, only Baldwin in ’06 has had the best chance of advancing to the state title game. The had Kahuku on the ropes and lost by a Hail Mary. So yes, in 16 years of the state tournement, only one outer island team had a legit shot at the title, every other year the outer islands cannot compete. They’ve had good teams, but not good enough.

It should be called the D1 state consolation tourney..everyone knows that the real champ will be from the open division. I don’t think any of the OIA coaches wanted to play in D1. I think York and Young said it in interviews.

Why so many cry babies out there, so many winers, let the games play and let all the schools make money on this new format, that’s what is all about, and really there are only really three great teams in all the Divisions, Punahou, Saint Louis, and Kahuku, no one else can compete with these three.
