As a Kamehameha alumni you know for a FACT STL recruits; but now that your son goes there you play it off like, “oh I’m not sure & in my book I don’t think so”. Lol. ILH recruiting is LEGAL, stop hiding! FACT: Almost EVERY ILH school recruits kids for athletics or academics; but Cal Lee took it to another level in the 80’s!!! I guess you couldn’t find a dictionary? My opinion or your opinion doesn’t matter, only dictionary meaning matters!!!! See you on an updated posts

??? – your last post is a perfect example of some of the issues people have with your posts…previously I asked for an example/explanation for your definition of recruiting. I explained what I understand as well as what I think goes on…I’m waiting on yours. This is like a coaching situation- imagine I’m a kid (16 yr old football player), and I just asked you how to maintain contain on a qb….Instead of explaining, you just yelled keep contain and grabbed the next kid…Cal Lee wouldn’t do that…lol! Maybe if you explain yourself, dummies like me might better understand your concerns. BTW, I notice you cited three out the smallest ILH schools…so I guess Waianae, Kahuku, etc are the reason for the other public schools demise in football? The ILH issue is strongly tied to enrollment which is impacted heavily by economic factors…and tuition is closer to $17k at StL…now I wonder if Campbell/Kapolei/Waianae like the Open format…maybe we should Google that…

Maybe you should look up the dictionary meaning of recruiting because only STL fans deny it; at least Punahou admits it!
So you’re saying STL just made $1.4 million dollars with 94 football players each paying STL $15,000 tuition. Lol. You wish…

It’s funny that you mention Kahuku’s coach as liking the Open format that’s because his and York’s teams are the few that can compete with STL/Pun.
You probably also deny that STL is the reason Damien, Iolani & PAC-5 begged the ILH to make a division 2 or they would forfeit playing STL every year!

As you stated earlier “they will get better by playing better competition” but they all said they was getting hurt not getting better by playing the football factory!

notes – note sure who can be totally objective, but I’d contend that you and ??? have irrational/unsubstantiated claims.

Recruiting is offset by transfers/GE, big money interest is offset by the OIA getting the better financial terms.
The biggest thing you and ??? need to swallow (aside from pride) is that the OIA coaches and players, who you claim are unfairly treated, like the current format and see it as a benefit to them…I quote “Carvalho also pointed out that the iron schedule of the OIA Open this season and last has boosted the strength of Hawaii teams. “
Maybe you and ??? are just wrong?

CrusaderDad, this is just not a very good look for you. former ILH coach who now sends their kid to saint louis acting like he’s objective and not a very part of the system that is destroying high school football. “the system is fine” says the person who is a part of the system. this is a joke. how can anyone take you seriously?

??? – If your view of recruiting is some school official or coach actively visiting practices or games and contacting coaches/parents (like college, how UH recruits) and encouraging the kid to play for the school…Notice no mention $$$…then Pun, I’m not sure. StL, No…but what I see today at StL is a parent/coach approaching a StL coach, small talk and the coach encourages a kid to apply – this is NOT recruiting in my book.

The only positive review for the OIA is money, ie… Just like when Ohio State invited UH to come to the horseshoe to get Cracks & a big payday.

Curious – my son applied to 3 schools, got waitlisted, 2nd time at KS (my alma mater) and we went with the best choice we had.

??? – amazing…you come to the conclusion that Pun won cause of recruiting…the ‘93 Pun team had no SR D1 talent. Had a few Jr and Srs but this team got wacked by some OIA teams along the way….which I listed.

BTW, I missed out what HS you volunteered coached at? Pop Warner? Maybe JPS (I’m hoping)??

Oh wow…just read more positive reviews about how the Open Division concept is helpful to the OIA by an OIA coach…and you can’t even make this up…

I’ve never said OIA teams should or would give up or fold. OIA will always compete! But 81-0 STL-Waianae last year is the outcome they will have all year if they don’t sub by 2nd qtr.
You beat STL while at Punahou but FAIL to mention that Punahou recruits too! Also you beat STL but guess who won the ILH and prep bowl that year? STL!
STL will beat 99% of OIA teams with No problem and you as a former coach know exactly what I’m talking about; with 94 players 4-5 deep at every position and any athlete they want in the state they will win 15 years in a roll again!
