I don’t know if they’ll be every year moving forward but this year for sure. Unlike other posters, I’m not upset that they stayed in DII, I just wished they would challenge themselves.

You and several others are so demanded that Lahaina should be in D1. Try go to their faces and make them go up because judging by them they be staying in D2 for a while……

They have more than double Hilo’s enrollment. The only other school that comes close in D-I is Maui with aprrox. 2000. If they win it all this year, I think it’s time for them to move up to Open.

Technically all BIIF schools can declare for D2 under the current rule. Hilo and Kealakehe have smaller enrollment numbers than Pearl City and McKinley, and about the same as Roosevelt (so props to Kaimuki for sticking around with them). Obviously they won’t do it because that’s one less state berth for the league. This is reason why Division I feels so irrelevant right now. Same goes for ILH D-I and D-II (personally by virtue of enrollment Iolani should be in the Open).

I guess they’re scared to jump because they always used to lose against Iolani in the championship. Until last year that is. They haven’t been as dominant in the MIL until like 4 years ago, and it’s only the last 3 years Baldwin has looked so bad. With their enrollment, they really have no incentive to move up. BIIF has 2(3) classifications as well but it’s almost just for more state berths as you would guess.

They should be in D1 imo.
