Hopefully, players being recruited get a great education and future.

However, the greatest recruiting areas are the North Shore (Hau’ula, Laie, Kaaawa) and Central Oahu (Wahiawa, Mililani, Pearl City, Aiea). Kamehameha, Punahou & St. Louis recruit from these areas The downside of the recruiting is if the athlete doesn’t pan out and creates a financial burden on their family for all the sacrifices they made to support the athlete.

Dafun, that’s because it’s a poll. Humans change their minds, even experienced coaches (and media). This is what I always say: high school rankings are whipped cream. Fun to eat, no nutritional value. I never ask for whipped cream when I order a shake, but do I skim it off the top? Almost never.
Feel free to post your Top 10 teams every week. It’ll make you feel better, even without the whipped cream.

Iolani and kahuku both play horrific teams and move up in ranking. But no clear answer

It’s a must for them to stay alive. You need students to have a school 🙂 I was specifically talking about the efforts to recruit for football. I keep hearing that word (recruiting) as if the Lee brothers are sending out recruiting letters to middle school and elementary kids across the islands. Or having dinner with the families telling them how amazing the school is. Kahuku and Saint Louis has built a culture of winning and success, along with a pride that is unmatched at the moment. Kids wanna go their for that reason alone.

So double teaming him wasn’t enough to contain him, Mariterangi’s teammates found it necessary to double hold him also! If the linesman did not pull out his flag on this play, and this is a frequent occurrence, then RidgeRunner DD-214 has a apparently very valid opinion about anyone’s chances of defeating these guys!

Doesn’t make sense. Almost on the same level of why Iolani bumped up rankings so much out of nowhere

George Ornellas’s father played on the first Crusader team that Cal Lee was the head coach of, in 1972. Even so, there is nothing wrong about recruiting, it could be as little as running advertisements in the daily newspaper or on TV and radio, or through personal contacts. All private schools utilize some form of recruiting, they don’t have a captive population in their immediate geographical location like government schools do. Private schools serve a valuable function in a free society. They are needed to serve part of the school age population, the government schools are not sufficiently funded and staffed and equipped to accommodate all of the school age population. In addition, independent schools are an alternative to a state education. They are able to offer educational experiences and opportunities not found in a state school which parents and students may value and want. State schools are constrained by constitutional limitations on what they can do with their curriculum, something that independent schools are not constrained by. For families that want a particular kind of education not found in a state school, a private school would be their preferred alternative. In the case of Kula Ki’e Ki’e O Kana Lui-Saint Louis High School-the school has a 175 year tradition of preparing young men to become leaders in their community in various fields, from law, medicine, government, military, performing arts, business, to name some of the fields that Saint Louis alumni have distinguished themselves as leaders in. An article in Hawaii Business magazine years ago pointed out the extraordinary number of distinguished alumni from the little school upon Kalaepohaku’s rugged slope, noting that at one time the Governor, Honolulu Mayor and Police Chief were all alumni of Saint Louis! And there are numerous private school alumni to be found among government school administrators, faculty, coaches, and staff; so private schools can hardly be accused of stealing from any community, or destroying a community-what an absurd accusation! The fact is, the public, as well as public schools, are well served by private schools!

They look like the best team. But then again who cares about mid year rankings. Best of health to all the athletes and coaches

Not every single player that attends Saint Louis goes there because he was recruited. I would bet that most of them somehow have roots there from other men in their families. So if a kid comes from Samoa or the mainland and moves in with family who live in Kahuku to better his future is that recruiting? Or if a kid who lives in Nanakuli wants to play for Waianae or Waialua for Kahuku, is that recruiting? Recruiting just seems like an excuse or a missed used word people use.
