I understand HHSAA’s 19 year old rule but some people have suggested that the rule only applies if the player/parent “self-reports” the violation. In 2002, Kahuku’s Muliwai Pula wasn’t allowed to participate in the state track tournament despite winning the OIA 100 and 200 meters bc he allegedly turned 20 but yet he starred in the state football game victory against St. Louis and made a game winning TD along with teammate Kolo Funaki during the fall of 2001. This 19 year old rule was applied to Baldwin’s soccer player, Nicole Garbin, back in 2001 seemingly without challenge.

Majority of the ILH players is 16 year old freshmen. And people wonder why St Louis does so good. Cmon, you can catch these boys drinking with their coaches at St Louis Alumni.

Actually, for me, I don’t know who has repeated grades in middle school, or before high school. Nobody sends us copies of birth certificates and transcripts. The HHSAA’s by-laws state that no student-athlete can participate in state tournaments if they have turned 19 before the first day of senior year.
It’s a strategic maneuver by parents and their children. Is it moral or immoral? In the larger scope…

Too many red-shirted “phenoms”. Punahou’s Defries, Mililani’s Gabriel, Kakuku’s former QB Maiava, STF, Akana and Chavis, etc. Blame OC 16 and SA, they know which kids are held back yet they still hype em anyway. Sad State of Hypewaii!

Punahou beat Mililani and Mililani beat Kahuku so Punahou should be rated #4 right??!!
Looks like OIA still not getting respect it deserves..

Tua went to Alabama as a so called True Freshmen and he was older then Jalen Hurts (sophomore). Come on everyone knows the St Louis way… hold your boy down a year, or 2, or 3. That’s the only reason why everyone sends their boys to St Louis cause if they wanted academics, they would’ve sent their boy to Punahou or Iolani.
