I heard Kasier also met with Girls Head Basketball Coach Simon Bitanga last week to tell him he is not coming back. They will open the position soon to the public. Any truth to this?

Best of luck to the players and new coach at Kaiser High (great opportunity for Richard Torres). I suspect that the success at Kailua High under Hauoli Wong had something to do with players leaving Kaiser with a shift of talent.

Mahatma – I played for Ron when we won the prep bowl in ’79 – no recruiting, the kids came to where the coaching was top-notch and winning was a tradition. No blue chippers just hard-working guys that wanted to make the best of their high school playing days.

Public school coaches are so grossly under paid that it violates labor law minimum pay standards. Isn’t it about time the public school pays these coaches?!

Mahatma, Reggie is at Punahou. It’s his son Richard that coaches at kaiser. Hopefully he gets the position, I know I’m rooting for him to get the job =)

I thought Reggie Torres was assisting at Punahou.
It’s got to be so hard to build a winning team at Kaiser. Half of Hawaii Kai kids attend private schools. Rich Miano and Ron Lee won at Kaiser, but both were recruiting heavily outside the Kaiser school district. Back in the 1970s, Ron Lee could sell playing in a passing game in the traditional run first OIA.

With the cost of living ridiculously high im surprised our young millennials can even survive here in Hawaii to the point that sports is no fun anymore because earning a living is so stressful. Volunteering 50 hours a week to coaching becomes less of a priority and a 2nd job or more hours in the 1st job makes more sense.

Thanks for your dedication to our kids the past two seasons.
