This is basically a free vacation.

I mean airfare now is outrageous to the outer islands. Think About It.

If an Iolani as an example, wants to go down from where they should be, then let em. The OIA has a nice system right now where its settled on the field in their game performance. In the quarterfinals of their D1 playoffs, the winners go Open, the Losers go D1. It works, Mililani who was upset like last season and had to go D1 instead of Open, didn’t deserve that as they lost among the 8 remaining OIA teams in the playoffs. If they want Open classification, they gotta win their playoff game on the field not based on past success, history or potential. If the same thing happens this playoff season, what happens then? Does a team who suffered a similar fate automatically qualify to for the Open State Tournament in spite of them losing in the quarterfinals? The field will be whittled down to 4 remaining teams in the semi’s. What happens if several of the top Dogs remaining in the OIA Playoffs are teams that have declared D1 prior to the season? Unlikely but you never know, there may be some Davids slaying some Goliaths this season. Guess the thinking may be, no matter as only OIA playoffs. Just a thought.

If they could agree back then that sustained success could be a determining factor in division placement, why wouldn’t they do that again? I’m not talking about one year of success, but maybe they could devise a criteria where a team’s 3-year win percentage could be used to force teams to declare for a higher or lower division. 2 or 3 year win percentages would help prevent a single strong class of athletes from forcing a historically weak team up a division unnecessarily. For example, if a team makes OIA D2 playoffs and their 3-yr win percentage is over 67%, then maybe they should be pushed up to a higher division.
