GAME NIGHT 9/6: Saint Louis/Kamehameha

Kamehameha three-and-out and punts. Saint Louis ball at its 37 with 6:00 left. After three runs, Saint Louis punts. Kamehameha ball with 3:51 left. Keone picks up two first downs then takes a sack. Kamehameha takes a timeout with :06 left. Game ends with an incomplete pass. Saint Louis has its 30th consecutive win.

Kamehameha penalty on the free kick gives Saint Louis possession at the Warriors’ 36. Crusaders go for it on fourth-and-5 and Apo’s deep ball is too long. Warriors ball with about 8:30 left.


Third quarter ends with Kamehameha facing third-and-9 from its 2. On the first play of the fourth quarter, Yuen is sacked in the end zone by Quincy Likio for a SAFETY. Running clock back in effect. 11:52 Q4.

Saint Louis’ drive starts with a holding call. Bianco keeps it for 10 yards and is injured on the play. Apo back in at QB. Crusaders’ punt is downed at the Kamehameha 1. :53 Q3.

Warriors can’t do anything with the turnover and line up to punt. Punter Keaton Downing pulls it down and takes off but is dropped for a loss of 3. Saint Louis ball at the Kamehameha 42. 1:49 Q3.

Kamehameha’s possession loses 13 yards before the Warriors lose a fumble and Saint Louis recovers at the Kamehameha 28. AJ Bianco in at QB for Saint Louis. He  completes a throw for 18 yards then is intercepted by Kamaka at the 1. Warriors with three short runs up the middle and punt from the end zone. Saint Louis’ returner tries to make a play and fumbles, Kamaka recovers for Kamehameha at the 44 for his third takeaway of the second half.

Saint Louis’ kickoff return comes out to the 10 and there’s a brief skirmish after the whistle. Personal foul on the Crusaders pushes them back to their 5 to start the drive. Crusaders with three runs up the middle for 3 yards and they punt. Kamehameha ball at the Warriors’ 48.

Saint Louis starts the second half at its 19 with the running clock in effect. Apo makes a nice throw rolling to his right for a 15-yard gain. His next throw is intercepted by Paliku Kamaka and he takes it back 42 yards for a TOUCHDOWN. PAT good. Back to normal timing. 9:41 Q3

Warriors go three-and-out and Saint Louis takes over at its 20 with :09 left. One Connor Apo handoff and the half ends. De Laura likely ends his night 10-for-12 for 175 yards and two TDs.


De Laura opens the drive with a 56-yard strike to Makena Ramos-Kamaka down the left side to the Kamehameha 24. A holding call moves the Crusaders back to the 37. After an 11-yard completion and only his second incompletion of the night, de Laura goes back to Ramos-Kamaka for a 26-yard TOUCHDOWN. PAT good. 1:49 Q2.

Yuen back in at QB for Kamehameha with the Warriors at their 18. Warriors get a first down on a defensive holding call on third and 4. Facing a third-and-10, Yuen scrambles and launches one deep and Blaze Kamoku makes the grab for a 36-yard completion. Another completion moves the ball to the Saint Louis 19. Yuen is sacked on second and third down for 11 yards in losses. The Warriors attempt a 44-yard field goal and it comes up short. Saint Louis takes over with 2:53 left in the half.

A mishandled snap on first down results in a loss of 9, Keone is sacked and pressured into a incompletion. Warriors punt. Saint Louis ball at the Kamehameha 49. De Laura keeps it on the first two plays of the drive for 23 yards. Jason Cruz up the middle for 20 more on two carries. After a Kamehameha timeout, de Laura keeps it around the left side for 7 yards. Cruz finishes the run-only drive with a 4-yard TOUCHDOWN. PAT failed when kicker Lason Napuunoa takes a pitch from the holder and is stopped in the backfield. 7:09 Q2.

Kamehameha goes three-and-out after Keone is sacked by Sonny Masaniai and Jordan Botelho for a loss of 10 on third down. Saint Louis also goes three and out with de Laura sacked by Spencer Salcedo. Crusaders punt from their 20 after a personal foul call. Kamehameha starts at its 44. On the second play of the second quarter, Keone goes deep and its intercepted by Kamo’i Latu, who takes it back 60 yards for Saint Louis’ second PICK-6 of the game. PAT good. 10:58 Q2.

Kamehameha starts at its 27 with Kiai Keone at QB. Warriors go three and out and punt. Saint Louis takes over at its 24. De Laura keeps the drive going with a 10-yard scramble on third-and-6. On the next play he finds a wide-open Roman Wilson on a post for a 34-yard TOUCHDOWN pass. PAT wide. 3:52 Q1

Kamehameha starts at it 12 and Yuen converts on third down with a 14-yard completion. His next throw is intercepted by Kaiser Cambra-Cho and he takes it back for a shorter return to the Kamehameha 30. Jayden de Laura completes his first two throws for 27 yards. Two plays later, Kaohu Kamakawiwo’ole scores on a 1-yard TOUCHDOWN run. PAT good. 8:23 Q1.

Kamehameha starts at its 17 with Jonah Yuen at QB. After a run for 2 yards on first down, Yuen’s first pass is picked off by Harvey Welch and returned 22 yards for a Saint Louis TOUCHDOWN. PAT good. Crusaders up 16 seconds into the game.


A pregame shower during Hawai’i Pono’i chased most of the crowd from the orange section into the cover of the blue.

Saint Louis wins the toss and defers. Kamehameha will receive the opening kickoff.

    Holy marbles. I think Kamehameha needs to consider moving down a division.

    Against Punahou and St. Louis, Abu is now 1-14…a HC change is needed at Kamehameha. No athletic program in the US, except Kamehameha, would retain a head coach whose conference record is 1-14 over 4 years
