GAME NIGHT 10/19: Waialua/Roosevelt

9:17: Roosevelt runs the runs the clock out. 57-23 is your final. The Rough Riders advance to next week’s OIA Division II championship at Aloha Stadium for the second straight year.

9:07: Blitzen Benz runs in a 6-yard score to score for Waialua with 4:02 left. Roosevelt lead is down to 57-23.


9:03: Waialua goes three-and-out and punts. Roosevelt gets the ball back on its

9:00: 7:32 left to go as we face an injury delay.

8:54: We’re officially in running clock territory as Camacho punches in another one-yard score. Things have been getting chippy all night long, so the referees are gathering both teams. It’s led to a handful of delays tonight.

FOURTH QUARTER

8:41: End of the third quarter. Roosevelt has the ball with Kolea Pa-Macalino in at quarterback.

8:33: Mitchell Camacho gets in on the action, taking a handoff for a 1-yard score. After the PAT snap is muffed, holder Brandon Teixeira throws up a prayer to Kaulana Koki, who somehow catches it. The Roosevelt lead is now 50-17 with 2:07 left in the third.

8:20: Waialua punts after not getting deep enough in Roosevelt territory. The Rough Riders start from their own 15 with 4:40 left in the third.

8:12: We’ve gone full shootout mode as Ogata keeps it for a 14-yard touchdown. Segawa’s kick is good as Roosevelt extends its lead to 42-17 with 8:01 left in the third.

8:06: TOUCHDOWN WAIALUA. Hoekstra adds to his big day with a 62-yard reception for a touchdown, a deep ball thrown perfectly from Lacar. Mahuka’s kick is good and the Roosevelt lead is cut to 35-17 with 9:10 left in the third quarter.

8:01: TOUCHDOWN ROOSEVELT. That didn’t take long. Myka Kukahiwa takes a 58-yard handoff to the house. Isaac Segawa‘s PAT is good and the Rough Riders lead 35-10 with 10:48 left in the third.

7:58: Roosevelt starts from its own 21 after the kickoff.

THIRD QUARTER

7:39: Not so fast. Justyce Lacar hits Blazen Benz for a 20-yard touchdown with 8 seconds left in the first half. Mahuka’s PAT cuts the lead to 28-10. Roosevelt runs out the rest of the first half clock and will receive to start the second half.

7:30: TOUCHDOWN ROOSEVELT. Ogata rolls to his left and hits Scott Chung for an 8-yard score. Kekahuna runs in the two-point conversion and the rout is on. Roosevelt leads 28-3 with 2:17 left in the first half. The Rough Riders will receive to start the second half as well.

7:21: Waialua turns it over on downs at the Roosevelt 34 with 4:52 left in the half.


7:16: Waialua forces a Roosevelt punt to keep themselves in this thing. The punt is BLOCKED by Hoekstra, and the Bulldogs have the ball at the Roosevelt 28 with 6:08 in the first half. Hoekstra and Kekahuna have been everywhere this half.

7:07: Waialua gets on the board with a 37-yard field goal from Kayde Mahuka with 10:52 left in the first half. A nice kick.

6:59: Waialua trying to get back into it as Hoekstra returns the kick to the Roosevelt 32 with 11:51 to go in the second quarter.

SECOND QUARTER

6:56: WOW. KEKAHUNA WITH A 56-YARD PUNT RETURN TO THE HOUSE TO END THE FIRST. Shaking off multiple would-be tacklers to add his touchdown total to three in the first quarter alone. Just an unreal play from an unreal player. Read more about him here. Ho’s PAT is good and Roosevelt leads 20-0 after the first quarter.

6:47: TOUCHDOWN ROUGH RIDERS. Kekahuna with his second 3-yard rushing score of the day to add to Roosevelt’s lead. The PAT snap goes awry but the Rough Riders are now on top 13-0 with 2:05 left in the first.

6:44: Did someone say momentum swing? Kaeo Akana recovers a fumble on a high snap for Roosevelt at the Waialua 3 on the next play. WOW.

6:43: Roosevelt quarterback Sky Ogata is INTERCEPTED by Kai Hoekstra, who brings it back to his own 9 with 2:16 left in the first. Huge momentum swing.

6:36: Waialua picks up a first down thanks to an encroachment call on Roosevelt but can’t get much further. After the punt, the Rough Riders have the ball on their own 17 with 4:57 left in the first, still up 7-0.

6:25: TOUCHDOWN ROOSEVELT. The Rough Riders drive right down the field, mixing in the run and the pass with good balance. Shepherd Kekahuna caps the drive with a 3-yard rushing touchdown. Paul Ho‘s PAT is good and the home team leads 7-0 with 9:06 left in the first quarter.

6:20: The punt is downed at the Waialua 44. Good starting field position for the Rough Riders.

6:19: The Bulldogs go three-and-out and will have to punt very deep from their own end zone.

6:16: Waialua will start from its own 3 after the returner stepped out of bounds on the kickoff.

FIRST QUARTER


6:15 p.m.: We’re looking at an earlier kickoff than the expected 6:30 time since Roosevelt won the JV game 52-0 over Nanakuli, with the whole second half played on a running clock. Roosevelt wins the opening kickoff and will defer.

    Hold your head up high Waialua. You guys have a great program out there. Doing what you guys do out there with the numbers that you guys have is amazing.
