Re-review upcoming playoff system. 2-4 teams will wait 3 weeks to see if their season is
over or find out if they make it to DIV.1 STATE playoffs. These are the teams LOSING 1st Round “division” playoffs. Funny they will play this “1st” playoff game, while top seeds get a bye, and top(seed) teams will go straight into open tournament, without a bye later?

Schools with 1,500 or more should stay in division 1 and the schools with less than 1,500 should be in another division. In the old days there were one division, this day and age and kids moving school constantly it’s harder. Plus with the increase of talent in the outer islands, it’s a whole new game. Moving up to a higher division should be a choice.

Coach Cody Von Appen had a stellar career at Kalaheo High School leading them to OIA red playoffs then to Eastern Arizona where he led two winning seasons then finished his career at Western Oregon University as Quarterback. His coaching experience consists of two seasons at Western Oregon University as the running back coach and now in his third season as a Graduate Assistant Coach at Northern Arizona University where he coached defensive line, then was the “interim” Corners coach and today serves as a Linebackers assistant GA.
Coach Von Appen actively recruits Hawaii players and is very involved in the Polynesian recruiting scene.
I feel this is would be a great hire due to his football genetics, his motivation to win and pride he has in Hawaii. This needs to be exposed to the public so they can see the caliber of candidates applying. I personally feel being a huge fan of Hawaii High School football that this would be a solid hire for Kamehameha because he could also add longevity, he knows how Polynesian recruitment works to expose talent to big schools and you can guarantee he would have an exciting offense and finally a good role model for the kids.

Denys

I feel they need to separate the stats into separate categories because there isn’t a chance that they would put that kind of numbers up against DI talent. For example look at the Kaiser quarterback who transferred in from Konawaena last year. He went from gaudy numbers against a subpar competition in the BIIF to better talent in DII and did not come close to those numbers. Imagined if he went to a DI school? Maybe if he went to a really good school he would have done well but not video game numbers like he had at Konewaena. That’s why I feel the numbers many of the DII athletes are putting up and surpassing the athletes who played against better competition and could not get those type of numbers is a misrepresentation of the true records. There should be a separation between the two or let them play once in a while to show that there is a different level (although for a couple of teams) the disparity is smaller.
