They think everything is linear (although they don’t know the definition of that word).

Polls are subjective so they will never be correct. But you have to understand, when your community is only known for doing one thing well (not counting the Spicy Ahi Poke at the Kahuku Superette, Food at Tita’s, or Pulehu Ribs at Papa Ole’s) you will get very defensive and sensitive when you feel it being threatened.

If they start losing at football then what will they be known for? Poor grades? Poverty? high Drug Use? Low Test Scores? Throwing coaches under the bus?

Let’s be supportive and pat them on the back for a job well done!

I love reading these articles, always amazed at how upset fans of a voted and ranked first place team complains about everything. a team got 2 votes out of what 15 and you are still not happy? I guess you live in an all or nothing world.”

it boils down to this: butthurt kahuku fans.

The issue is, how the heck do these 2 people give a team a number 1 ranking to a team that was never ranked 1st, has one loss, and just because they beat St Louis they receive 2 number 1 votes and yet Kahuku started at number 1 and has never lost a game to any Hawaii team this year.

Here are some reasons:

1) Two voters feel the OIA is very weak, so while Punahou has 1 loss, that one loss to STL is more impressive than the wins accumulated in the OIA by Kahuku.
2) You do not need to be ranked number 1 at all during a season to receive first place votes.

Obviously some voters feel there are only 3 good team in Hawaii (Kahuku, STL, and Punahou). Therefore, a few voters are rewarding Punahou and STL for beating each other while Kahuku hasn’t played a Hawaii team up to this standard.

Regardless of what you think, this isn’t ridiculous.

For example, if Alabama and Ohio State played each other two times and both had impressive wins against each other (they each have 1 loss each), and then another really good team such as Clemson is undefeated but hasn’t been beating any top teams in the voters eyes, some voters may view the team with 1 loss being the better team.

There are so many variables to account for (strength of schedule, margin of victory, strength of league, the team that is trending upwards, injuries, etc.). It is nearly impossible to get it right nor keep everyone happy.

Some voters will look at Kahuku and view them as a team who won 8 titles over so many year. Other voters will look at Kahuku and view them as what have they done this year ONLY. Neither are incorrect and each voters has that luxury to view it the way they want since there was probably no grading or voting criteria given.

You guys are making like Waialua or Damien got 2 votes. Punahou, while losing 1 game earlier, held a top 3 team in check and the Alabama bound QB didn’t do anything in the last game offensively.

To some voters that is more impressive than beating Kaiser, Radford, and Moanalua by 80 -100 points a game.

But to make like an injustice was done or some travesty has occurred is shortsighted.

You could make an argument why either Kahuku, Punahou, or STL should be ranked #1. None of them would be 100% correct.

It is america and people can have difference of opinions, something you might struggle with.
It is a ranking and nobody cares as much as the North shore about these rankings.
I do not see St louis complaining because they beat Punahou but are now 3rd, I dont see Punahou complaing even though after the preseason scrimmage it looked to everyone that Punahou got the better of the two. Lets just wait to see how the season turns out, there is still alot of football to be played.

You’re taking words out of context and making it sound as if I’m against Punahou. First of all, this ranking is bogus so I wouldn’t have a cow if Kahuku wasn’t ranked and it has nothing to do with when Punahou beat Kahuku and we’re not afraid to play Punahou and I hope that happens this year. Let me repeat, so that you won’t have a cow and say things that would mock my statement. The issue is, how the heck do these 2 people give a team a number 1 ranking to a team that was never ranked 1st, has one loss, and just because they beat St Louis they receive 2 number 1 votes and yet Kahuku started at number 1 and has never lost a game to any Hawaii team this year. Maybe you’re one of these voters that vote for the ILH teams. I question the criteria these voters are using before they submit their votes, that’s all. Has nothing to do with Punahou, St Louis or Kapaa.

So yes, Hawaii public schools would lack, buuutttt,,,,the abnormal thing is the public school football teams are winning the States football championships, oh well.

So what happens when kahuku beats ilh 1 and 2 week after week in the playoffs…will the ilh try and make another change up in the playoffs next year…and plus without any outter island teams playing in the open this isnt a state championship..only the D1 and 2 playoffs is state tournaments.th e open division playoffs is an oahu championship.

Do you have any evidence that the ILH made this change? Didn’t the previous articles say that neighbor island leagues declined to play in the Open Tourney. Didn’t the OIA vote for this change?

So if these reports are accurate, how could the money the ILH “allegedly” threw around cause change? And how could change be caused from the ILH when the OIA voted to accept the changes?

I love how people just throw out accusations without any shred of evidence.

You care how many votes a second place team gets already. Last year Mililani and St louis was ranked higher than Kahuku and your north shore brethren didnt say that Mililani should be #1 until they are beaten, they said they should be #1. It is just funny to me that’s all. BTW when was the last time Kahuku beat Punahou anyway? Last year, nope- year before, nope, year before that, nope.
Seems to me you are tired of losing to Punahou and that’s why you complain about them?
