P.S., it’s the battle of Titans whose rosters are filled with polys from the North Shore, LOL. No difference in intellect between public vs private school players from Oahu’s Northside. It’s just that at Punahou these mercenaries are taken care of very nicely (“diversity” scholarships, classes and tutors for the sole sake of keeping athletes eligible, housing near campus for a select few by boosters, etc). I know many alumni and parents of “legit” students are upset at the admissions process and the enrollment slots taken away from disadvantaged students who aren’t athletes but that’s the way to go if you to be football kings. I never played HS sports because of my asthma but I have no complaints. DISCLAIMER: I went to Punahou summer school session once but wasn’t a student there.

get real Jerry. It’s players that win games, not coaches. Spud Botelho’s Pac-5 teams only beat St Louis in the early 1980s, just before Cal Lee’s recruits matured into juniors and seniors. Don Botelho also had to recruit players to make Pac-5 competitive. I remember his early teams, then known as the HUMMERS, would get killed by other ILH teams. But those early HUMMER teams also had Samoan recruits. Their QB and receiver tandem of Lia Moevao and Tauanuu Lolotai. His Prep Bowl Winning teams of 1982 and 1985 also had numerous Samoan recruits. Pio Sagapolutele and Joe Onosai to name a few. Kale Ane and Punahou HAD to start recruiting to keep up with St Louis if they wanted a competitive football team.
