California won two and Hawaii won one. The young men pictured above were part of the winning team. Here are some factoids.
1- Larry Ginoza, Englar and Maeda(sic) were the coaches.
2- Laboy, Richardson, Raiola and Desoto as well as others contributed on defense.
3-Final score 15 to 6
4- This is great topic for a series of blog entries or article(s)

You’re correct, it was an all Oahu team but as close as you can get at that time. Relied on only memory up to this past year. One note, on the defensive second team, Joe Cho is listed as a senior. He was a sophomore. ( I believe).

Thanks, I added it but I don’t consider it an all-state team. It is all-oahu.

I played for Farrington and we were all sick to death of the split. Yes many players who lived and played in the Kalihi area did go to the private schools, ( Mosi Tatupu, etc.). But we welcomed the challenge and remained close friends and only wished the best for them. The one thing we missed the most was the rivalries, Farrington vs. Punahou, St. Louis, Kam, etc. Good to see the pics of Cliff Laboy, Rey Leonardo, etc. Even Chester Grey, Ken Kashiwaeda, Joe Cho. Mahalo plenty!!

It’s no secret our public education system is not up to par, thus many of our kids cannot even make it in college, so parents make sacrifices! Stop crying and get over it!

Oh when you have breakfast with AANNYYWWAAYYSS go compare notes and cry together. Your agenda runs deep!!!
