All the teams are deserving of the bid and played under the current format to get to states. I think there should be a selection committee so at least include a wild card team that many feel deserves to be there and should be considered. Maybe a play in match. College basketball now has it. College football does it sorta.

To Adams point; first congrats to Punahou for beating Iolani and other teams in their division and getting the 1st rd bid. Late in the season the irony is that Iolani did Punahou a favor by beating Kamehameha at Iolani. That gave Punahou the bid for their quadrant. If Kamehameha wins against Iolani then it would have been a tie breaker match with Punahou and Kamehameha for the 1st rd bid.

The voters are probably looking at the fact that Iolani beat Kamehameha in 3 sets and then a week later played Kamehame again at Kapalama this time and it went 5 in a televised match. A couple of days later Kamehameha handled Punahou at Punahou in straight sets 15,17 and 16 also a televised match. We are talking about matches that were played in Oct not earlier in the year or matches with teams not at full strength. Again Punahou is in. Like the rest of us – go enjoy states. This is weekly poll. Punahou can go out and win states this weekend they will be #1.

All three ILH teams; Punahou, Kamehahema and Le Jardin deserve to be in states and excellent team. This is not the first time we have seen a good team strong enough to win states that is left out of states from the ILH. This has to be fixed.

I think this is the first time since Kahuku in 2016 that a non ILH team has a legit shot at making the finals. I have family connections on OIA and ILH teams that are still contending so I’m torn.

Mahatma – it’s Iolani Raiders but I think you know that. Part of your sense of humor I suspect.

The formula that is used, which rewards quantity over quality, is heavily biased towards the OIA. Since they have the most schools participating, they get the most invites. The ILH tried a format this year to get another invite, but it had no effect for `Iolani, Kamehameha and Punahou. The 3rd ILH team could not be from those teams, but from the teams that “chose” to move up from D2, who were separated into their own bracket, to preserve a guaranteed spot for them.

Overall, it may be a good move for the ILH in the long run. If they can demonstrate in States that a 3rd ILH team can make a deeper run than a 4th, 5th, or 6th from OIA, it may cause HIADA to relook at their formula.

Most likely Punahou might end up not going to the playoffs and they are clearly the 2nd best team in the State!

Are you telling me that if Kamehameha loses in states that Iolani will finish the year as the #1 team? All the voters who picked Iolani #2 for this poll should be voting for them #1 next week if Kamehameha loses, right? Lame.

Every year Moanalua has home cooking in the states. Playoffs I can see but State tournament games should always be played on neutral courts.

Who are these voters? Kamehameha and Punahou made it to states and rightfully so. Move on. Every year only two ILH teams make it to states. You have never wrote an article about how close Punahou was even though they lost. Lets go Kamehameha and Punahou! The two teams that deserve to be in states because they won and defeated Iolani.

They figured they could let Elena Oglivie go to Egypt and they would go undefeated once she returned.
Elene Oglivie = Iolani Red Raider volleyball recruit.
