I have the data on most of the event winners if you need it. Punahou took first, third, fourth and fifth in the 880. And won the first ever state championship for Coach Al Rowen.

” Fosbury Flop “..the Ole ” Western Roll ” as I recall…and the Landing Pit was filled with Saw
Dust…Hard on the Elbows…I was 5′ 6 ” 1/2 ..135 lbs… Also played Var-Basketball ..My HS
Track Season started late..because of State Basketball Tour..I believe we ended in 4th place..
I almost talked myself, into not doing Track/field …I felt heavy and with the late start ??? but,
I thought I’d play it by ear…My 10th and 11th school years, I lived in Kona..Played Basketball,
and ran Track for Konawaena HS..Won most of HJ events..did well in the 180 low Hurdles..
Won the Var. HJ at the Lahainaluna Invitational …my Junior yr..I believe, I would have had a
chance to win the State title’s in 59/60..but, for some reason was never invited ..
I’m still involved with sports..I just retired from Officiating College Soccer…Still doing HS…
I also Officiate HS. Lacrosse, Basketball, and Volleyball…try to stay in the best shape, I can
be…I live in Bay Village,Ohio…western suburbs of Cleveland…Again, Mahalo for doing this..
it brought back some good memorie’s….Did you guy’s find any picture’s ( Archives ) ?

The newspapers reported this finish in 1977: Robert Rosa, McKinley, 6-4; Chris Searl, Punahou, 6-2; Willie Baker, Aiea, 6-2; Steve Pratt, Kaiser, 6-2; Robbie Spencer, St. Anthony, 6-0.

The only mention of Narmore that year was a fifth in the triple jump.

Ferd Lewis wrote: Robert Rosa of McKinley upset Punahou’s almost automatic high jump winner, Chris Searl.

So I don’t think it would be a mistake in typing in the results, which happens.
