As of this comment, top 3 teams are all in Quadrant 1, with the best records, followed by the leader of Quadrant 2. By explanation above, it illustrates there’ll be a team from Q2 who will make the D1 state tourney, bumping a team with a better W/L record. Irony is that the Q2 1st place team is also very competitive and does deserve a shot. BUT, it does eliminate a worthy team from Q1, who demonstrated thru W/L record & sets won they should have been rewarded a state berth….. Format still doesn’t make sense 🙁 …. but congrats to Q2 winner to make it to states to compete and bummers to 3rd place team of Q1. This format demonstrates…. life is never fair…. but do your best to play with integrity and sportsmanship…. :l

How did the Big 3 end up in the same quadrant? This still means that quite possibly one of the best teams will not make the State tournament. The ILH gets a 3rd berth and we’re still not going to see the three strongest teams from the league in the tournament? Why bother? Who created this format?

Whoops sorry, should be Maryknoll instead of MPI. Maryknoll was in D-I with KSK, Iol and Pun last year but is in the second quad with Mid-Pacific moving up from D-II into the first quad.

It says one of the schools between Le Jardin, MPI, HBA and Sacred Hearts is Garanteed a spot in D1 state tournament. But the article also says MPI is in the upper quadrant with Punahou, Iolani and Kamehameha. Maryknoll is in the other quadrant with HBA, Le Jardin and Sacred Hearts.

This would give ILH 3 teams in D1 and 3 teams in D2 HHSAA tournaments.

Punahou would have been the 3rd best team in the state tournament if they made it. Of course, when you sustain that kind of success, it is because of recruiting. Volleyball used to be nothing back in my days, the 1970s. Now the sport has grown in stature, to the point that the ILH schools now want their own dominant volleyball programs. Like St Louis in football. Iolani Red Raider boys won the ILH last year, I gotta wonder if they are recruiting players. I say they are, both wahine and kane.

In D2 yes, not D1.

Could we get a thorough explanation please? Mahalo!

“All eight teams will play each other once and then play the schools within their quadrant a second time to determine a winner in each quadrant. The first-place team in each quadrant will receive a berth in the state tournament and then the third-place team will be the winner of a postseason tournament.”
