You can attempt to use unnecessary big words and try to talk around the actual point to confuse everyone, but you will still be wrong at the end of the day. You're actually contradicting yourself quite a lot in all your statements. You talk about me not being able to predict the future, yet you talk about Maryknoll as if they don't have a good a chance this year because they lost key players. That's literally the exact same as me saying that the chances of Maryknoll winning 4 in a row with Sage would be increasingly higher. Also, I guess every commentator on every big TV sports network is wrong when they refer to sports teams as "DEFENDING" champions. They refer to every team that won a championship in the prior season as "DEFENDING". This goes for pro sports down to high school sports on every TV network. I guess you're right and all the professionals are wrong.]]> @Pakelika

I said your attempt to prove that Maryknoll isn’t the “DEFENDING” champions was “SOLID”. You could have a solid argument and still be wrong 🤷‍♂️. Not only did Ok Sure fail to offer any argument to support this irrational conclusion, Ok Sure failed even to point out what was wrong about it! All Ok Sure did was to make baseless, gratuitous assertions and highly speculative predictions about what might have been. A championship is never easily won at the Division 1 level of HHSAA boys basketball, repeating and winning championships consecutively is even greater in difficulty. Additionally, Ok Sure disregards the fact that no one can predict the future success, or what might have been, of any team with certainty, no matter how good a team appears to be, past or present. Ok Sure thoughtlessly disregards, or maybe is unaware of, the X factor-the unknowable, unpredictable, and unforeseen coming from seemingly nowhere to upset or disrupt what at one time appeared to be certain. No Ok Sure, Pakelika is not wrong, certainly not in any objective sense, and you have failed to make a solid attempt at disproving the indisputably correct assertions thereof.

Wrong, but solid try though. Anyone who says Maryknoll or any other team that won a championship prior to covid canceling last season is just hating. You’re right, they did lose some players, but they also still have multiple players that played big roles on that state championship squad. They also have some great young talent that will make noise in the ILH for the next few years. Every other team in the state should count their blessings and realize how lucky they are that Sage is no longer at Maryknoll. That would’ve easily been 3 state championships in a row (4 if Covid never happened) if he stayed.

They are not now the champions. This is another season and a different Maryknoll team, key players who enabled them to win two years ago are not now on the team. High school sports are not like boxing where an individual holds onto the championship until they retire or lose a championship match, or have their title removed by a governing body. In boxing, a champion fighter fights to retain the championship, and thus it can be said that the fighter defends their title. Maryknoll has won the 2020 boys Division 1 HHSAA basketball championship, they are not defending it, it is theirs to keep in perpetuity. They-this year’s Maryknoll team-along with everyone else with whom they compete, are competing for this year’s championship. That is not mere opinion, it is objective fact.

1. Maryknoll. I believe you are the champ until you lose in regular season.

2. Iolani. I think they will end up winning states.

3. STL. Coach Hale is a really good coach. They have some very talented players.

4. Punahou. They have a nice collection of talent. I am not sold on the coaching or the Watanabe kid.

5. Kamehameha. They are usually good. I haven’t seen them play that much.

6. Kahuku. Akana gets a lot out of the kids. They have a solid roster.

7. Kailua. Coach Wally is proven. They will do well in the OIA.

8. Mililani. Garrett is going wonderful out there. They demolished Leilehua.

9. Kalaheo. They are usually in the mix in the OIA.

10. N/A

Lol… And last I checked, Iolani is not the 2 time defending champion. They went winless in the last actual season that was played. Looks like the hype train has everyone’s memory mixed up.
