Mid-Pacific has beaten ‘Iolani and given Punahou a run for their money many times in the ILH D1 the last few seasons under Hirata. The would’ve challenged for the D2 title every year. Damien was only a D1 beater when they had an influx of talent last season with the 6’7″ transfer and they were only winning some regular season games by single digits. Before that, it was St. Francis. You really think St. Francis would’ve beat the Mid-Pac team that had Zion Shephard? I don’t think so.

They should go D2, beat up on the weaker teams in ILH D2, rack up D2 state titles, and get the media hype like other teams have because they sure haven’t gotten any recognition for toughing it out in the highest division’s league whatsoever. What would be the point of returning to D1 at that point? This state doesn’t care what division you play in to be honest. It has been proven you can have a kid in D2 win the Gatorade over his D1 counterparts. MPI could easily have been doing what Saint Francis and Damien have done the past few seasons. BUT I for one respect the hell out of the Owls for remaining D1 and I hope they continue to stay there.
