All my kids are 3.8 – 4.0 students. Im not on this website to talk about academics, this is a sports blog and yes this Kahuku BBall team is top 2 in Hawaii history. Villa is top 3 point guards of all time.

HAHAHA, c’mon. And let me guess, your son is the National Secretary of Defense and your daughter just won the Nobel Prize?

Great job buddy!

It was pretty bad. They had some great talent then too just didn’t know how to use them I guess.

That might make you feel good which is fine. But how will that help your child who attends one of the worst academics school in Hawaii if not the US?

Hey Mr. Punahou/ Edufirst you come and belittle a community that you have no ties too. Why do you care so much about Kahuku? You know you can go help the kids at Farrington or Kaimuki or another public school right? There are tons of Homeless people in Honolulu that would benefit from your generosity, oh, I get it, you are only talk. What you really intend to do is be a negative nancy on every article that praises Kahuku sports programs. You need a life bro!

So reciting facts that are on public record is belittling? And it’s interesting that you do not tell me that my data is inaccurate.

I wonder why that is? And instead of being upset at the messenger, why don’t you be upset with the adults who allow these children to continue to fail and possibly set them up to struggle if they do graduate.

Their College Readiness Index is 19.0. That is so bad.

Please explain to me how winning multiple state titles in football or a state title in basketball will negate the horrible college readiness index score and prepare these kids for college.

Even if they are talented enough to get an athletic scholarship they still must:

1) qualify
2) do the work in college

Based on the data, this is a stretch for many of these students. Keep blaming me instead of looking in the mirror.

I feel for your child.

As for donating, I donate tons which is why I know your scores stink.

I guess you haven’t watched much basketball @Tafena. Their guards stuggled this year. That is why teams could double down on Hugh so often.

Go and watch last year’s state tournament vs. Punahou and Kaiser. Teams played Hugh wigh a single team last year and he went off.

This year he saw much more double teams. I guess you didn’t notice that? When your perimeter play isn’t as good and the talent around Hugh isn’t as good, then can cheat off certain teammates and double.

Teams in the semis and finals last year hardly chose to do this. This strategy suggests that the talent level isn’t that same. Well it suggests that for anyone who understands basketball.

I apologize for over-estimating your basketball IQ. Please let me know if you need more instruction on how teams show to game plan and match-up.

@Ed

How can this year’s Iolani team be the worst in the last 16 years? They were the defending champs with the then reigning State and Gatorade POY who had been to the finals 3 straight years. Such a nitpicky bs attempt at once again degrading anything Kahuku which seems to be your sole purpose on this website.

Sir you must not watch much basketball if you ask that question. I am talking about overall basketball talent. It’s clear. I am not saying their team didn’t do well in terms of wins and losses. But if you compare this team to the ones with DLow, Pape, Webster, Shoji, Chu, Tulonghari, etc., it’s clear that they aren’t as talented.

That is why they got spanked by Kailua. They were not that good. They overachieved. But over the past 16 years this is one of Iolani’s worse teams. I would be very surprised if you could find me one Hawaii High School Coach that would say any different.
