Punahou senior Connor Lehl won Saturday’s ILH cross country championship, the final race before the state championship on Oct. 29. Lehl became Punahou’s first ILH boys winner since Todd Iacovelli, now one of Punahou’s coaches, went back-to-back in 2000 and 2001 (see list below). Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa got in Moanalua’s way. The Kapolei senior defensive lineman helped the host Hurricanes shut down Moanalua in Friday’s 49-9 win in the OIA Division I quarterfinals. Tagovailoa-Amosa broke up four passes by Moanalua quarterback Alakai Yuen in the win that sent the Hurricanes to the semifinals against Farrington. “He’s an awesome kid. Kalaheo, Radford win cross country titles

Kalaheo’s Avery Torres won his second straight OIA Eastern Division cross country title on Saturday at Central Oahu Regional Park. Torres finished the boys 5-kilometer race in 16 minutes, 38.91 seconds. Teammate Colby Otero finished second in 16:53.42 as Kalaheo placed four runners in the top 10 to win the team title with 32 points. Radford’s Camryn Butz won her third race of the season, finishing first during an OIA meet at Central Oahu Regional Park on Saturday. Butz finished the 5-kilometer race in 20 minutes, 40.35 seconds. The Rams took the top three spots with Karla Angulo finishing in 21:35.48 and Taryn Trigler finishing in 21:40.43. In the boys 5k, Kalaheo’s Avery Torres finished first in 16:34.39. Punahou’s Connor Lehl and St. Andrew Priory’s Jordan Jones won their respective races at Saturday’s cross country meet held at Hawaii Preparatory Academy. The Big Island meet attracted outer island runners from the ILH, MIL and OIA. Hawaii Prep, which has one of the toughest courses in the state, will host the state meet on Oct. 29. Lehl outsprinted Kalaheo’s Colby Otero to win the boys 5-kilometer race. Lehl finished in 17 minutes, 59.17 seconds and Otero finished in 17:59.45. […]

Waialua still in hunt despite loss

Missed opportunities hurt Waialua in a 26-7 loss to Waipahu on Friday. But even with the loss, the Bulldogs remain in the running for one of four OIA Division II playoff berths. Waipahu (5-1, 4-1 OIA D-II) and Kaimuki (4-2, 4-1) remained a half-game behind leader Pearl City (4-1, 4-0) with their Friday wins.
