Punahou jumps to No. 2 in softball top 10

By Billy Hull on April 1, 2019

A nine-game winning streak has Punahou tied for the lead in the ILH — for now — and ranked No. 2 in this week’s Honolulu Star-Advertiser Top 10. The good news might not last long however as the Buffanblu host ILH co-leader ‘Iolani this afternoon with the winner taking over sole possession of first place. The Buffanblu began the year No. 1 after an impressive preseason run, but began league play with losses to Maryknoll and Mid-Pacific. A 9-3 win over ‘Iolani […]

St. Francis turns its attention to making a run in D-II

By Billy Hull on March 27, 2019

Nothing that transpired in No. 10 St. Francis’ 4-1 loss to No. 3 Punahou on Tuesday at Goeas Field changed the way Saints coach Kip Akana views his team. The Saints played error-free baseball against the Buffanblu and hung tight despite hitting 0-for-12 with runners in scoring position. They scratched across a run in the seventh inning with aggressive baserunning. Pinch runner Dean Foster stole third base, despite a four-run deficit, forcing a throw from the catcher to get away […]

Punahou’s Koa Eldredge providing much needed relief

By Billy Hull on March 26, 2019

Winning a state championship requires three wins in three days — and sometimes even four in four days. A dominant pitcher can get a team into the semifinals, but it generally comes down to the guys down-staff that make the difference between hoisting a koa trophy or not. For third-ranked Punahou, that guy is turning out to be junior left-hander Koa Eldredge. A receiver on the football team with 15 touchdown receptions and more than 1,000 career receiving yards, he’s also […]

The teams will play again next Thursday at the Sabers’ field. All 10 teams in […]
