Gymnast from Damien headed to Illinois

Emanuele Muehlhauser, a Damien Memorial senior, signed a national letter of intent on Thursday to accept a partial gymnastics scholarship with the University of Illinois.

The Illini are one of the nation’s top college gymnastics programs. They finished No. 4 in the College Gymnastics Association national rankings last spring.

Muehlhauser trains with Hawaii Island Twisters, which is based in Mapunapuna.

The Illini actually finished 3rd in NCAAs for Men’s Gymnastics.

The ranking on the NCAA page was posted prior to the April 21 2017 NCAA finals.
