Part 6 (post-match)

This is the not-so-secret secret about prep volleyball in the islands. If you really want a taste, a chance to savor the game at its highest level, you don’t really have to wait until the state tournament. You can embrace it during the regular season while the ILH is in full gear.

That was the case on Saturday afternoon when Punahou visited Kamehameha. It went back and forth in the heat and humidity. It was easily one of the best matches I’ve seen in 20-plus years of watching volleyball. After losing twice earlier in the season, Punahou came through with a big road win.

Punahou’s five-set, come-from-behind victory means there’s a good chance the teams will meet again on Thursday for the ILH championship. For those of you who won’t be attending the state tourney on the Big Island, this might be your last chance to see the nationally-ranked Warriors and powerhouse Buffanblu.
