‘Iolani a unanimous No. 1 as girls basketball state tourney opens

The ‘Iolani Raiders are a unanimous No. 1 in today's Star-Advertiser Girls Basketball Top 10. Paul Honda/Star-Advertiser

For an 11th consecutive week, the ‘Iolani Raiders are on the throne with a No. 1 ranking in the Star-Advertiser Girls Basketball Top 10.

The champions of the Interscholastic League of Honolulu have a bye as the opening round of the Snapple/HHSAA Girls Basketball State Championship tips off this afternoon. ‘Iolani (20-6) will face the Maui-Kaiser winner on Thursday in the quarterfinal round at Moanalua.

There were some minor changes, like Waiakea dropping from No. 3 into a tie with Kahuku at No. 4, but with most of the state idle the past week, the rankings are mostly unchanged.

Four-time defending state champion Konawaena, which hosts Leilehua this afternoon, remained at No. 8. Hilo, which finished third in the BIIF, moved up to No. 9, switching places with Mililani.

The Lady Trojans visit Kamehameha tonight in the opening round of the state tourney.

Punahou also received three votes.
