VOTE: Waianae’s Torii Field vs. Oklahoma’s Jelsma Stadium in USA Today Poll

The quarterfinal round of USA Today America’s Best High School Football Stadiums public poll is underway.

Waianae’s Raymond Torii Field advanced out of the round of 16 last week with a lopsided win over Diamond Ranch Academy (Utah). Torii Field, the No. 3 seed, is paired with No. 6 Jelsma Stadium (Okla.). In early voting, Jelsma Stadium leads Torii Field 303-217 (59 percent to 41 percent).

Many of the sites in the poll are multi-million dollar facilities, but none has quite the aesthetic, natural environment of Torii Field’s Waianae Mountain Range on the mauka side, and the majestic Pacific Ocean and sunsets on the makai side.

Voting begins today and ends on Saturday.


UPDATE, Tuesday, 8 p.m.
After trailing early in the day, Raymond Torii Field leads Jelsma Stadium 5,278 to 3,385 (61 to 39 percent).

UPDATE, Wednesday, 9 p.m.
A surge of votes has landed for Jelsma Stadium, but Torii Field is maintaining a respectable lead. With 21,304 votes counted, Waianae’s home field leads 12,589 to 8,715 (59 to 41 percent).


UPDATE, Friday, 2 p.m.
With one more day of voting ahead, there are 32,908 votes casted. Torii Field has 21,509 votes and Jelsma Stadium has 11,399 (65 to 35 percent).

UPDATE, Sunday, 6:30 a.m.
The voting is done for the week with 37,604 counted. Torii Field doubled Jelsma Stadium’s count, 25,155 to 12,449 (67 to 33 percent).
