Video: #7 Kaiser vs #9 Kauai

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3 (post game)

It was a defensive battle, as expected, between Rich Miano’s Kaiser Cougars and Tommy John Cox’s Kauai Red Raiders. Kauai was poised to pull off the upset until Kaiser came up with the play of the game on the first snap of the fourth quarter.

Kaisers played like that all year… slow and sometimes sloppy on the start but focused and still going 100% after half-time. Kauai had something like 5 yards rushing on 22 carries during the second half. Kaiser had the game in the second based on how well these guys executed and their conditioning. I’ll take that over a team that comes out hard in the first half and goes downhill after that. Kaiser also had some plays that could have added 14 more points to the score easily.. like the leg tackle on Thomas near the end zone by their last player – with no TD after etc.

I give Kauai a lot of credit. Great year guys!!!

Coaching was the difference. Give credit to both sides. Tommy Cox just went to the well one too many times. Couldn’t pull it off. Good match!

On the block punt in the 4th quater, #12 could have been more mobile, it was a costly error on KHS part. It’s too bad he didn’t pick it up sooner.
