No. 4 Kamehameha All-State football

Jacob Ordensteiin was first-team All-State at running back for the Honolulu Star-Bulletin in 1996 and 1997.

The power running game is back at Kamehameha.

Coach Doug Cosbie‘s smashmouth system was successful last year, but injuries forced him to split carries between Brandon Kahookele and Kainoa Simao, leaving them shut out of the Honolulu Star-Advertiser’s first team when All-State selections were announced. Looking back on selections of the past, having a 9-2 Kamehameha team virtually assures a spot among the elite.

The Warriors have not had a running back on the first team since Ryan Ho in 2009, matching 1985-88 and 2005-2008 as the longest droughts. They would have had an even longer drought spanning the late 90s if not for Jacob Ordenstein making it for the Star-Bulletin two years in 1996-97. He was not selected for the Honolulu Advertiser’s team either year, passed over in favor of Clifford Russell of Campbell and Sean Jardin of Waimea in 1996 and West Keliikipi of Waianae, Joe Igber of Iolani and Noah Campbell of Saint Louis in 1997.

The Warriors have had 14 different running backs deemed first-team All State by a newspaper over the years.
