LIVE BLOG: Punahou 55, Saint Louis 7

by Paul Honda on August 29, 2014

First quarter
Ephraim Tuliloa finds Kanawai Noa in single coverage deep for a 45-yard bomb. That’s the kind of big-play action I remember from the Punahou-Farrington scrimmage weeks ago. Buffanblu 7, Crusaders 0, 3:11.

Second quarter
Saint Louis had a nice drive going, getting to the PUN 7-yard line, but fumbled on a run play. Three plays later, Tuliloa launched a 43-yard bomb to Noa for another touchdown. Not sure why they’re trying to cover Noa with just one defender, but Punahou isn’t complaining. Buffanblu 13, Crusaders 0, 11:25.

Three and out for STL, and on the next play from scrimmage … yes, it’s Noa again. STL refuses to double cover No. 9, and Tuliloa goes to him for an 80-yard touchdown pass. Buffanblu 20, Crusaders 0, 9:26.

They’re scoring too fast for me to keep up.

Micah Ma‘a leaps high and hangs on after the hit for an 11-yard touchdown catch. Buffanblu 27, Crusaders 0, 6:50.

Heisman Hosoda hauls in a 23-yard TD pass from Tuliloa. Buffanblu 34, Crusaders 0, 3:29.

When it rains, it pours. That’s true for Saint Louis so far. Tua Tagovailoa’s pass bounces off his wide receiver and into the hands of cornerback Randon Oda, who returns the ball 44 yards for a touchdown. Buffanblu 41, Crusaders 0, 2:54.

Third quarter
Tagovailoa connects with Jimmy Nunuha for a 10-yard touchdown pass in Saint Louis’ first drive of the second half. The running clock is now not in effect. Buffanblu 41, Crusaders 7, 7:33.

Tuliloa throws a 44-yard bomb to Kali‘i Santos, his sixth TD pass of the night. Buffanblu 48, Crusaders 7, 5:49.

Fourth quarter
Hosoda scores his second TD of the game, a 10-yard blast up the middle. Buffanblu 55, Crusaders 7, 6:29.
