  6. Wake up November 27, 2018 10:14 pm

He’s not better then the 2 that was mentioned. Go rewatch the STL game and watch the StL
Oline man handle him. The same Oline that struggles against the StL Dline

  7. ILH November 28, 2018 2:14 am

I guess they don’t want all Crusaders for player of the year, bad selections, Defries and Tafiti, no way, they didn’t show nothing against the Crusaders.

  8. ILH November 28, 2018 2:18 am

Liufau too, not better then any Crusader, give me a break. Crusaders handled Liufau, hahahahahaha

  9. B. Meyer November 28, 2018 2:44 am

ILH you do realize it’s the ILH coaches who vote on all of this right?? Including probably your favorite coach, Cal Lee. Stop crying

  10. OIA2012 November 28, 2018 5:31 am

How does Makaula not make the ILH team, hands down best DB In the ILH, no one wanted to
Throw his way this year now that is stats!! Wow unbelievable!

  11. Clueless November 28, 2018 5:33 am

This list is a joke. Obvious politics as usual.

  12. Clueless November 28, 2018 5:35 am

This list is obviously politics as usual in ILH. Sad for the kids that worked their butts off and truly deserve to make this list.

  13. SUSPENSE November 28, 2018 6:49 am

2, 3, 5, 6, 7 ALL YOUR COMMENTS WELL SAID!!!!! WONDER WHY THE BIAS FOR PUNAHOU PLAYERS?????

  14. Get it right November 28, 2018 7:01 am

How in the world is The Safety from Saint Louis Latu honorable mention. He had like 9 interceptions, 3 fumble recoveries and i think 2 to the house touchdowns. Unreal how this politics work. Mean.

  15. Are you kidding me November 28, 2018 7:13 am

Latu from saint louis got ripped off. He had 9 interceptions, 3 fumble recoveries, and 2 to the house. In my eyes , thats defensive player of the year and yet he makes honorable mention? Wow , something doesnt seem right.

  16. Scott Kawakami November 28, 2018 7:18 am

If you wish to post derogatory comments, at least have the decency to use your real names. Don’t hide behind your online aliases. Otherwise, be positive.

  17. Unbelievable November 28, 2018 8:03 am

Latu, 9 interceptions, 3 fumble recovery, 2 to the house TD’s. Thats a defensive of player of the year lol. Yet he gets honorable mention? Wow, wow, wow

  18. ILH November 28, 2018 8:19 am

Maybe because those two mentioned are overrated??

Isnt anyone going to even discuss the dismal performance of the QB in the last 3 games?

If you in the know, the Lou got some serious things to deal with if they cant improve the play of the QB. I know they not going talk about it in an open forum, BUT, its for real.

Maybe give APO a shot? or recruit a new stud?

  19. Braddah Bu November 28, 2018 8:24 am

Havent watched the QB play, but I’m sure he’ll figure it out next year BUT ILH you do realize these players are all voted by the head coaches right?

  20. ILH November 28, 2018 8:31 am

I do. And I think they got it right with those two getting the nod.
Any complaints about who made the team should be directed to the Head Coach.

    My opinion, of course.

  21. Unreal November 28, 2018 9:10 am

Latu for saint louis got 9 interceptions, 3 fumble recoveries and 2 to the house TDS, in my eyes that defensive player of the year, yet he only makes honorable mention. WOW, WOW, WOW

  22. ILH November 28, 2018 9:35 am

    Ball Peen-

I think you can find Coach Cal up at the school or maybe the clubhouse to discuss how in the heck this happened.

A Junior(Defries) & Freshman (Tafiti) beat out those two guys, incredible.

Wait, did you just call these kids scrubs??

Care to backpedal on that before you get roasted??

  23. SUSPENSE November 28, 2018 9:59 am

for defense, only punahous should be liufau (BUT, NOT MVP), shiraki and gilman! lmao re the two for defensive line!

  24. Toucht November 28, 2018 10:34 am

    Hammer,
I think your argument is completely valid. However, your inability to write complete sentences in the English language has severely detracted from the influence of your argument.

  25. Tamar deFries November 28, 2018 10:43 am

    Aloha!

First and foremost, I am proud of every name on the list and not on the list. Our boys grind every moment of every day. Thank you SONS of HAWAII. You make us all PROUD. Therefore, we should not be “bashing” any “high school” player. Let me restate that, we should not be “bashing” any “high school” player.

Hiram is my son. He and every SON works tirelessly on and off the field – 365 days a year. We are a humble family who choose not to “brag and boast” about our son’s successes or D1 opportunities. Each SON in our book is a success and we are so PROUD of all of them. Its a WE thing.

deFries children are born into a football family and am SAD to see the unreasonable bashing that has escalated over time. Over the last two decades, we have quietly listened to people “bash” 18, 19, 20, 21 year old young men who walked the halls for teams that my Dad has had the honor to be a part of AND we always wondered “if those bashing these KIDS would like it, if someone talked about their child (or loved one) in such a way”. It is a SAD day when we now have to “bash” 15, 16, 17, and 18 year old high school players.

What I do know, is that ALL OUR SONS wake every day to work hard in the classroom and on the field. What I also know, is that ALL OUR SONS are good kids with outstanding character.

Congratulations to ALL OUR SONS. WE are PROUD of each of you and recognize you for being outstanding young men.

I did promise my dear friend and business partner, Bobby Hall, that I would treat him at the Clubhouse and hoping to visit with my cousin Jimmy deFries. Please join us, as we also have much love for SLS.

  26. Rebel November 28, 2018 10:47 am

The MEDIA chooses the All-Stars now…

  27. Charles Amai November 28, 2018 11:13 am

DPOY was a flip between Liufau, Tuitele, Botelho. All well deserving.

The stats and film don’t lie……No idea how Kamo’i Latu is not 1st team ILH? He will definitely get 1st team all state.

Gino and Tufono off the 1st team list and are Full Ride USC Trojans? This is the Sam Taulealea JIP from decades ago. CV building the youngsters and hoping the seniors wont mind since they already have the meal tickets in place! Do not discredit our newly minted 808 CFB representatives!!!!!

  28. 808 football fan November 28, 2018 11:58 am

Did anyone READ the first paragraph of this article?? It clearly states that the list was created and voted on “by LEAGUE COACHES”…. so if you have any complaints, try taking it up with your school’s coach.

Also, these are 15, 16, 17, and 18 year old boys that many of you are bashing over here. THEY ARE KIDS!!! You must lead such awful lives to so easily do such a thing. How would you feel if it was YOUR child that was being spoken of in such a way?! So GTFOH with these negative comments and complaints about “politics”. I feel sorry for your children to be raised by such hateful individuals.

CONGRATS to all those who made the list and those whose names may not be on the list but who work hard every day, no matter what school you go to. Best wishes on a successful future – whether or not that includes football.

  29. ILH November 28, 2018 12:36 pm

    Run-on Sentence Guy-

    Cal Lee
    Kale Ane
    Abu Maafala

Those is the humans you need to go talk to or “might be better open hand slap across their ear”.

  30. ILH November 28, 2018 12:37 pm

    Rebel-

    What are you talking about……..

  31. Scott T Kawakami November 28, 2018 12:55 pm

Mr. DeFries: it was great reading your comments. I agree with you 100 percent. Aloha.

  32. ILH November 28, 2018 1:06 pm

    ahhhhh mannnnnnn.

    Its Mrs. DeFries.

  33. Wake up November 28, 2018 1:39 pm

So you telling me only the kids who made 1st team work hard and deserve it? GTF outta here with that. The whole damn defense could be made up with STL players but they had to do a pity party and include some other schools. It’s an injustice to the kids from STL who also work just as hard and get left out because the powers that be don’t want to see and all STL 1st team. They are the undisputed state Champs for a reason. No one even came close. Make a team with only Kam school and Punahoe all stars and STL would still blow them out.

  34. James Harrison November 28, 2018 2:34 pm

Quick count was 62 players from 3 teams. Participation trophies for everyone?

  35. Lou November 28, 2018 6:20 pm

All my braddahs up on Waialae we got the 3 peat let’s not go overboard. Our criticism of others is why we had a target on our backs. This is small stuff. Let’s not separate ourselves from our ILH bud s. We cannot demand the whole team to be allstars. Geez,be humble this is not the Catholic way.

  36. All stars November 28, 2018 7:39 pm

    #33 wake up

You need to learn how to read.
Is Mrs. deFries only referencing the 1st team?
It seems “GTF outta here” seems a little harsh.

Furthermore, I do recall watching Punahou come within 1 possession during their first meeting. In fact, the refs may have missed the PI at the end. I don’t think this qualifies as “no one even came close”.

However, with this being said, the Crusaders did an awesome job. A 3-peat in any sport is definitely a great accomplishment.

  37. V.Tafiti November 29, 2018 1:48 am

#Tafiti So proud of my nephew Teva! God is awesome:) Blessings to all the young men that played this season:) cheeeeehoooooooo!!!!!

  38. hwnstyll November 30, 2018 12:06 pm

Every year there are players and parents that feel they should have made 1st team, this year is no different. Colleges offer scholarships to players they feel can help them and not how good their high school career was.

St louis are the champs and they deserve it, but to say Kamehameha and Punahou combined could not beat them is a stretch. The St louis parents I know dont talk this way so I will not let you speak for them, The ones I know have class and cheer for all players on both sides to do well.

Being recognized is nice but you shouldn’t need that to know if you had a good year or not, if you do I feel sorry for you.

  39. Hammer December 2, 2018 3:32 pm

For all you dummy’s that don’t no how the system works the coaches put there guys in then a other people decide we no unfair the OIA the ILH there are no surprises there hawaii is the most corrupt state in America just another slap in the face to st louis but is good when you slap st louis in the face the crusaders punch you in the face so up there ass let’s 4 peat and all the haters and corrupt people more sick

  40. Stupid December 2, 2018 8:44 pm

    You’re stupid.
