Kapolei linebacker Omar Mareko has accepted an invite to the 2017 Polynesian Bowl, increasing the total of players from Hawaii selected to the game to 34.

Mareko was a key part of a Hurricanes defense that helped Kapolei finish 10-3 this season. The Hurricanes finished No. 3 in the final Honolulu Star-Advertiser Top 10 rankings — their highest finish in school history — and advanced to the semifinals of the Open Division state tournament.

Also, Saint Louis head coach Cal Lee and former NFL and UH offensive lineman Leo Goeas have been added to Dick Tomey‘s coaching staff. Tomey will coach Team Stanley against Team Mariota, led by ex-Hawaii coach June Jones.

The game also added ESPN 300 linebacker Joshua Ross, a four-star recruit who has committed to Michigan.

The 2017 Polynesian Bowl will be held Saturday, Jan. 21, at Aloha Stadium and be televised to the mainland on ESPN3.

I’m happy for the Poly Bowl. But we just had a bowl game today with college coaches and great player. Never one word in the Advertiser. Sad you only follow the money

There’s no point, I’ve mentioned the jps Paradise Classic numerous times with links to the rosters. The PHOF Bowl copy cat everything from the JPS, certain members of the PHOF just use their name nd status in the leauge to get the sponsers nd big names to jump on board. But the format, the drafting of the players, playing mainland team etc. . . All copied the Paradise classic, the only difference is the PC all star team is made up of Not just seniors but juniors too. . . And the nation’s top recruit Najee Harris (Alabama Commit) is committed to play in this game also. . .
