After more than 30 years in coaching, June Jones is moving into administration as Saint Louis School’s new director of athletic programs and development, the school said.

“He (Jones) will be overseeing the athletics program as far as helping our students reach not only athletic excellence but also academic excellence, which is really a big part of why he wanted to be at Saint Louis,” said Glenn Medeiros, head of school for Saint Louis. “He really cares about Hawaii’s kids.”

If Cal Lee steps down as head football coach, Jones is expected to assume that position as well. But “that would be June’s decision,” a source said.

Lee, 70, guided the Crusaders to the Hawaii High School Athletic Association open division title last month and has not said if he will return for 2017. He has said he will make a decision after the holidays.

Jones is expected to take on a major fundraising role for the school in addition to athletics.

Wade Okamura
will remain as director of athletics, a position he has held since 2014. Medeiros said.

Kapolei going back to being OIA quarter-finalists and Coach H doing the OIA playoffs and states from the booth.

Gotta ask HPW if this story is accurate. Star Advertiser rewrote this story twice, two different stories.

    Taulia right behind

  7. grabum.bythe.puppy.gate December 2, 2016 6:27 pm

dey trying to be the bishop gorman of hawaii, makes sense, kahuku showed the possibilities of national recognition lastyear. we need a hawaii team to stack up and be top10 nationally every year, stlouis is that team bcause all they care about is football and cal lee is the recruiting king. punahou has more money but academics is primary, football secondary

  8. Unko Alvin December 2, 2016 7:29 pm

Eh, that was already written in the pre season books like Darren all alone again; June Junes once upon a time coaching for the Methodist and now the Catholics that’s great news and even better overdue confession JJ?

  9. 16 December 2, 2016 7:50 pm

We don’t want Taulia to follow…..we want Sol- Jay. Kahuku has a bad ass QB right there.

  10. Chloropicrin December 2, 2016 8:47 pm

What was the first thing on the agenda in the Kapolei football coaches meetings?….Coach H would ask JJ if he would like cream and sugar with his coffee. Hahahahaha. I know everyone wasn’t that naive thinking JJ would have stayed at Kap city.

  11. Chloropicrin December 2, 2016 8:49 pm

If Sol-Jay stays at kahuku, he’s gonna play safety at Michigan. Think about what JJ could do with Sol-Jay?

  12. Big Red! December 2, 2016 10:16 pm

@chloroprican stop assuming shit! Sol Jay ain’t going nowhere! He probably will play safety at Michigan and the pros , that’s the best position for him! We have a hammah qb from jv coming up, so we do have options and the return of some hammahs from Utah! Tata isn’t going anywhere until Kahuku becomes number 1 in the Nation. That’s right!! I said it Number 1 in the nation . That’s the goal in Kahuku, so we gotta play top teams in the nation,. Awe! C’Mon haters Kahuku and St. Louis can do it. So it’s gonna be a race to see who does it first.

  13. Coach_B December 2, 2016 10:53 pm

    @ Big Red
I don’t think chloropicrin was assuming anything. It was a hypothetical. I think Sol-Joy might do really well under JJ, but who knows? And sure, he might end up being a safety, but if he thinks he can play qb, and if that is what he wants to do, then why wouldn’t he try to pursue that goal? At that, why wouldn’t that “hammah jv qb” you mentioned want to pursue being a qb as well? Maybe in a year or two someone like you will say the same thing that he should be a safety??? JJ is a proven qb developer. Don’t get mad at chloropicrin for pondering the possibilities. Especially ones that might end up being in the kid’s best interest

I have a buddy who coaches in the PAC 12. He asked me if I know who Coach Tata was. He told me Coach Tata applied for a D-Line positions coach at UCLA, Cal, and another school I was told. Take that for what it is worth. Thank you.

  15. Tutu Kane Ale December 3, 2016 1:06 am

Hope they can support JJ’s program and meet his financially demands or just pass the plate around until they can? My gut feeling Cal Lee will not be coming back,…just saying?

  16. Chloropicrin December 3, 2016 6:11 am

    @Big Red!

Slow your role, no one is assumsing anything and no one is hating. If anything schools want to emulate Kahuku’s success I don’t understand why every Red Raider fan (at least on these boards) 5think everyone is hating, stop with that thinking already. Getting back to the real point, Sol-Jay is an athlete from what we all saw this year, and a very good one. But if he wants to play QB he can, but how has Kahuku’s history been developing QB’s? Getting QB’s to the next level? They are in the same boat as Farrington and Waianae in terms of quarterback development. Yes Kahuku’s QB’s win titles, but they simply hand the ball off and play great defense. As a guy mentioned I was simply thinking hypotheticals, cause Sol-Jay is a good athlete and has potential at QB. QB’s camps and individual coaching are good, but applying what you learned/fundamentals in live game situations under duress also helps young QB’s develop. So before all the Kahuku internet fanboys think I’m hating, I’m not, so easy with the backlash.

  17. RaiderNader December 3, 2016 9:20 am

    @Big Red

Keep Sol-Jay at safety? Nah, that’s why Kahuku don’t know what to do with QBs. They still think of football through the 1970’s lens. They send out great O-Line and a linebacker every now and then, but skill positions they send out haven’t seen half of what colleges put out there. Majority of Hawaii high schools offensive playbooks still stuck in the past. Kapolei, Kam every now and then, and St Louis I’ve seen show good variety. Sol Jay gonna move (inside source since that’s how the north shore rolls) cause Kahuku is STILL having HC problems. Somebody post about WHY they haven’t seen Vae Tata lately after the loss? The change of game plan the day of the championship? It was reminiscent of The Gorman game, I in my own opinion thought y’all should’ve won. 2 losses due to a change of game plan day of the game is what I’m hearing from my nephews who played. Gotta remember, there’s more important things than your Big Red Machines reputation, it’s whatever the kids dream is. If SOLJAY wanna play QB best believe his parents are gonna move him to play QB, not sit at Kahuku to play Safety. Smh

  18. 16 December 3, 2016 9:36 am

It would make sense for Taulia to follow June because they already worked together, but I cant stress how much I want Sol- Jay to St. Louis. He reminds me of Mariota type physique and athletic ability. He will be better than Mariota with the right grooming. Even if he stays at Kahuku I would love to see Tata implement an offense similar to Oregon. Spread offense from the gun with the read option. I would hate for Sol- Jays potential to be wasted at that position.

It’s back to reality for Kapolei…

Kamehameha blew their chance to try and get JJ. STL & PUN will continue to dominate ILH.

I’m all for stacking STL to compete for #1 in the nation. . . Imagine a team with all Hawaii kids running the nation in football. . .

So sick of this guy. Can’t believe everyone still on his bandwagon.

  23. Just Saying December 3, 2016 8:11 pm

For those of you that think JJ is getting paid a ton of $ to do this job forget about it. JJ has been grooming Tua and Taulia since he returned from SMU and he’s doing this because he wants to see our local kids succeed at the next level. He’s been quoted many times that Hawaii is home now and he wants to give back to the community! He’s made his millions already and lived very modestly in Texas from my sources that are very close with him. He was on SL sidelines most of last season and the chatter started then that JJ would be great fit to replace Cal Lee once he retired. As for the school placing football over academics just the opposite is true and if you really would like to see the proof in the pudding go to a Open House and see for yourself. @Pun Alum 95, where there’s smoke there’s fire bruddah! Tata will bolt back to D1 when a Pac12 U offers him and wouldn’t be surprised that he’s coaching at a PAC12 school next year.

  24. Unko Alvin December 3, 2016 11:34 pm

June Jones is on track with his short but quick career comeback like only down the road is UH and at age 63 I’m sure he’ll be back coaching UH in couple of years and why not as a HC or AD for the Warriors like Cal Lee is 70yrs old; he, he, so what about UH Coach Rolo, well when he’s out of a job, he’ll find a lower salary coaching position in Hawaii Nei and like he’s still young and many more moons to buildup his coaching credentials? Good luck to both.

  25. Paper Crane December 4, 2016 3:15 am

Military Leadership and Management rule: whereas whenever there’s two Master Sargent in of a group, one master Sargent will do most of the supervising work whereas the other will just enjoy/collect his pay check; for St Louis one head coach is enough and if JJ want both AD and HC responsibility then have at it like work for your contracted salary JJ and as for Cal Lee, time to collect full pension and like they need your football stories like where all them makule braddas hang out; just saying and Cal, you will not regret full retirement, try it you overdue brother.

  26. rrforlifebaby December 5, 2016 11:45 am

Hmmmmm….Bishop Gorman might be looking for a new head coach.

  27. Lee Boy December 5, 2016 4:03 pm

Taulia is coming ova, Soljay can stay with the raidaz. He is no qb we will have more fun next year! back to back baby

  28. MP December 6, 2016 8:16 am

BIG WIN for Saint Louis, will be interesting to see if Taulia follows. I’m sure June will do a great job.
