Hilo earns top seed in D-I state football tournament

Undefeated Hilo, ranked No. 6 in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser Football Top 10, is the top seed in Division I in the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA State Football Championships beginning in two weeks.

The Vikings will host the first-round winner between Baldwin and Leilehua on Nov. 23 at Wong Stadium.

No. 2 seed Moanalua will host No. 3 seed ‘Iolani in the other semifinal game on Nov. 23 at 7 p.m.


The Bears and Mules will open things up at War Memorial Stadium on Nov. 15 at 5:30 p.m.


Baldwin is 5-7 in state-tournament games at War Memorial with three of those losses against Leilehua, which has never lost on Maui in the state tournament.


Leilehua is 4-0 all-time against Baldwin in the state tournament and 7-0 against neighbor island teams.
