*******

5:25 p.m.: Damien in victory formation and that’ll do it. Monarchs ride their two early defensive TDs, plus four throwing scores from Marcus Faufata-Pedrina to the 21-point victory.

Damien 39, Pac-Five 18, 2:10 4Q

5:17 p.m.: Bailey Hogle tears off a big run for the Pack down inside the Monarchs’ 40. Ulufale follows it up with a ball to Uechi, who makes a nice over-the-shoulder grab at the 9. Hogle then bulls his way in for the 9-yard TD. Pack gets the 79-yard drive done in four plays. Wow. 2-point run by Hogle is swallowed up.

5:16 p.m.: Early turnover-fest theme continuing here late. Cameron is picked by Pac-Five’s Alex Heim down in the red zone. Heim returns it a few yards out to the 21.

5:14 p.m.: Kaimana Cameron at the controls for Damien, which is draining clock successfully. Under 5:00 to go.

5:06 p.m.: Damien fully in clock-killing mode.

5:04 p.m.: Ulufale goes deep and gets picked by Damien DB Akila Arecchi, who comes down with his second interception of the game.

5:01 p.m.: Third quarter ends with Pac-Five starting a drive at the 33 but getting backed up four yards on first down.

Damien 39, Pac-Five 12, 0:27 3Q

4:58 p.m.: Damien marches down the field behind the legs of RB Keoua Kauhi, and caps the drive with a 10-yard Faufata-Pedrina TD swing pass to, fittingly, Kauhi. Faufata-Pedrina’s fourth scoring sling of the day, and XP is good.

4:50 p.m.: Twenty-point game with a quarter and a half to play. This thing is far from over.

Damien 32, Pac-Five 12, 5:17 3Q

4:47 p.m.: Wolfpack WR Jett Uechi makes an OUTSTANDING diving grab down at the 6. He had to fully extend for that. Lots of wows up in the Aloha Stadium press box. It sets up a 6-yard Ulufale keeper TD on the ensuing play. 2-point pass attempt goes incomplete.

4:45 p.m.: Damien’s punt is partially blocked and Pac-Five takes over on the Monarchs’ 35. Another chance for the Pack to get to double figures.

4:42 p.m.: On fourth and 1 at the Damien 21, RB Chyson Pena tries to bull his way for the first down. The Monarchs stand him up, however, and he goes nowhere. Big stand there. Damien takes over on downs.

4:38 p.m.: Pac-Five hasn’t called it quits. AJ Ulufale goes deep to Breyndon Nakamura, who beats double coverage for 39 yards to get the Pack into Monarch territory. It’s starting to look like the Pack’s other QB, Tyler Fukuroda, is done for the game.

Damien 32, Pac-Five 6, 9:09 3Q

4:35 p.m.: Another big play from the Monarchs, as Faufata-Pedrina finds Arecchi on a TD fade. Arecchi’s feet were VERY near the back of the end zone when he caught that 11-yard ball, but the refs raised their arms. XP is good this time.

4:32 p.m.: Damien now starts at its own 40. Faufata-Pedrina opens with a bullet to Akila Arecchi and Keoua Kauhi follows with a long run up to the Wolfpack 11. That was 49 yards in two plays.

4:31 p.m.: Turnovers galore! Cameron Dang comes up with the Wolfpack’s first pick of Fautafa-Pedrina as Dang’s momentum carried him out of bounds with the prize. Pac-Five with a great chance to do something here at the Damien 40 … and as soon as I type that, ANOTHER fumble right into Damien’s hands. Yikes.

4:28 p.m.: Wolfpack get up to the 25 … looks like we have yet another fumble. Kaikea Gonsales loses it at the end of a nice gain and Damien recovers. The successful onside kick went for naught unless the Wolfpack can force a quick punt.

4:25 p.m.: Coming out for the second half, Pac-Five attempts an onside kick. Success! Damien had it but couldn’t hang on to it. Pac-Five begins its drive at the Damien 46.

4:13 p.m.: At the break, Damien quarterback Marcus Faufata-Pedrina is 5-for-7 for 126 yards and two touchdowns.

4:06 p.m.: Damien calls timeout to set something up with three seconds left from the 26. They’re going for the field goal, a 43-yard attempt. Kaimana Cameron’s attempt definitely had the distance and looked good for a moment, but the refs wave it wide right. Monarchs go into the half with a 19-point lead.

4:04 p.m.: Nice return by Damien out to the 40. Monarchs have just under a minute to put more points on the board before halftime.

Damien 25, Pac-Five 6, 1:07 2Q

4:01 p.m.: Pac-Five’s bold strategy pays dividends. Ulufale keeps it up the middle and Pac-Five is on the board on the 5-yard score. Ulufale tries it again on a 2-point conversion attempt but he’s snuffed this time. This game is being decided in sixes.

4:00 p.m.: Pac-Five has a decision to make. Get on the board with a FG or try to punch it in facing a large deficit? It calls timeout facing a fourth and goal from the 5.

3:56 p.m.: First down Wolfpack at the Damien 22. Pac-Five is going consistently to the ground game right now, and it’s working for them.

3:53 p.m.: Ulufale, Pac-Five’s running quarterback, breaks off a nice run, shedding a few tackles. He’s got the Wolfpack knocking a little outside of the Monarchs’ red zone.

Damien 25, Pac-Five 0, 7:17 2Q

3:48 p.m.: Kellen Robins-Beers goes 70 yards on a scoop and score of another Pac-Five fumble, and Damien has its second defensive touchdown today. But extra points continue to be an adventure for the Monarchs … this one clangs off the right post.

3:45 p.m.: Fukuroda just gets absolutely LEVELED by Fosi Ulima after the throw, which gets picked downfield. Ulima gets tagged with a roughing the passer/targeting and the interception is negated. Pac-Five with a fresh set of downs at the Damien 21, looking for its first score of the game.

3:41 p.m.: Damien fumbles on a rushing play and Pac-Five’s Evan Ramirez collects it on a hop and runs it back about 25 yards to the Damien 35. Lotta fumbles going around.

3:38 p.m.: Pac-Five fumbles the kickoff return on a big hit and it looks for a moment like Damien recovered before the ball went out of bounds … ruled Pac-Five on the field … then reversed. Damien regains possession at the Pack 46. We have a player down on the field for Pac-Five. It’s Joel Itomura, but he’s able to jog it off after a moment.

Damien 19, Pac-Five 0, 10:14 2Q

3:36 p.m.: Faufata-Pedrina hits Lauti across the middle for a 55-yard catch-and-run touchdown as the poor Wolfpack DBs get burned. XP is again wide, 19-0.

3:34 p.m.: Wolfpack get backed up seven yards and go three and out, and the Monarchs have full momentum starting a drive from the Damien 40.

Damien 13, Pac-Five 0, 11:50 2Q

3:29 p.m.: First play of the second quarter and Faufata-Pedrina finds Lindon Sevilleja WIDE OPEN in stride within the 5. Sevilleja coasts in for the 41-yard TD connection. XP is wide, however.

3:27 p.m.: First quarter ends with Damien leading 7-0 and moving the chains, ball at the Pac-Five 41.

3:23 p.m.: Pac-Five’s kickoff return is a poor one and the Wolfpack begin at their 8. Before you know it, it’s third and 10. Fukuroda nearly has Ulufale on third down but throws it just long. Short punt takes a Pac-Five hop out to midfield. Still nice starting position for Damien.

Damien 7, Pac-Five 0, 2:41 1Q

3:20 p.m.: PICK-SIX ALERT! Damien’s Akila Arecchi snares a ball from Fukuroda and takes it back 48 yards along the far sideline to the house. Extra point is good by Kaimana Cameron.

3:15 p.m.: A couple of deep ball attempts by the Monarchs are just past the outstretched arms of the intended receiver Logan Lauti. Damien punts a good one to the Pac-Five 13.

3:13 p.m.: We’ve had about five false starts between the teams in seven minutes of play.

3:11 p.m.: Pac-Five is driving into the red zone but an ill-advised pitch in traffic by Ulufale results in a fumble and loss of 10 on third down. Alternating QB Tyler Fukuroda comes in and goes incomplete on fourth down. Damien takes over on its 25.

3:06 p.m.: Damien QB Marcus Faufata-Pedrina opens with a completion, then the Monarchs fumble it on a rushing play and it’s Moreau recovering one for the second time in less than three minutes of action. The Wolfpack take over in great position on the Monarchs’ 35.

3:04 p.m.: Ulufale fumbles on a scramble and Damien has a chance at a scoop and score but overshoots the ball, and the Wolfpack’s Nathaniel Moreau recovers. Still, Pac-Five comes up short of the first down on the ensuing play and must punt it away to the Damien 32.

3:00 p.m.: Damien kicks off to Pac-Five right to left. Nice return by AJ Ulufale out to the 38.

Damien 0, Pac-Five 0, 3 p.m.
