———-

10:41: The Monarchs successfully run out the clock and take this one 16-7. Lauti finishes with 234 yards of offense.

10:26: Damien goes three-and-out and punts, but gains a first down when a running into the punter penalty is called. The Monarchs are at the Kailua 20 with a little over five minutes left with a fresh set of downs.

10:20: Damien’s defense forces a punt and it gets the ball back on its own 4 with 6:43 remaining. Look for them to burn some clock here.

10:13: The Monarchs engineer their best drive of the day, capped off by a 6-yard scoring rush for Lauti. Roberts’ kick is good, giving Damien a 16-7 lead with 9:49 to go in the fourth quarter.

FOURTH QUARTER

10:05: SAFETY FOR DAMIEN. The Monarchs take a 9-7 lead with 59 seconds remaining in the third quarter and will take the kickoff from the 20. A real momentum-shifting play.

10:03: Ho’ohuli and Lauti connect for a 61-yard gain to the Kailua 7. The Surfriders’ defense forces a fourth-and-goal from the 1, and they hold up after Lauti takes a handoff and fumbles. We’re still tied at 7 with 1:33 left in the third.

9:56: Williams takes a read option keeper 63 yards TO THE HOUSE. Truly impressive speed on that one from the converted receiver. Maka Roberts‘ extra point is good and we’re tied at 7 with 4:33 left in the third.

9:54: We’re seeing the same defensive battle from the first half. After the teams exchange punts, Kailua takes over from its own 37 with 4:46 left in the third.

9:42: Damien forces a three-and-out, but takes over at its own 1 after a nice punt with 10:12 left in the third.

9:39: The Monarchs try an onside squib kick to start the second half, but Kailua recovers from its own 41.

THIRD QUARTER

9:20: Ho’ohuli finds Lindon Sevilleja for a 35-yard gain to the Kailua 5 with about eight seconds left. The Monarchs quickly call a timeout. Ho’ohuli then throws an incomplete pass to the back of the end zone, leaving three seconds left on the clock. The Monarchs choose not to kick a field goal and it pays off big time. Ho’ohuli hits Logan Lauti, who dives for the pylon as time expires for a five-yard touchdown. Christian Souza‘s PAT is good and Damien takes a 7-0 lead into the break.

9:16: It’s Damien’s turn to intercept a pass. Kinney picks off his second pass of the day, and the Monarchs take over from their own 45 with 29 seconds left in the half.

9:13: Ho’ohuli throws his second interception of the day. This one’s picked off by Leighton Russell and Kailua takes over on its own 45 with one minute left in the first half.

8:53: We’re at an extended delay in the action after Alohi Arecchi goes down with an injury. We are unsure what it as at this time. Thoughts go out to him.

8:45: After both teams exchange punts, Damien takes over at the Kailua 47 with 3:07 left in the half.

8:39: Damien’s Kyle Kinney picks off Kaniala Williams on the Monarchs’ 41 with 7:04 left in the half and we’re still scoreless.

8:35: Both teams can’t generate that much offense thus far. Damien punts to the Kailua 15 with 9:28 left in the second quarter.

SECOND QUARTER

8:25: The clock expires after the first quarter and we’re still scoreless. It’s been a defensive battle so far.

8:21: Damien takes over from its own 10 after a Kailua punt, 1:54 left in the first quarter.

8:16: Kailua takes over from its own 40 after Raine Kupahu picks off Duke Ho’ohuli with 4:20 left in the first quarter.

8:12: Kailua picks up a first down but that’s it. Damien takes over from its own 20 after a touchback, 5:57 left in the first.

8:08: Damien turns it over on downs after Duke Ho’ohuli gets sacked at the Kailua 45. Surfriders take over with 8:08 left in the first.
