GAME NIGHT 9/23: Radford/Kahuku

No. 2 Kahuku returns to the field for the first time since losing to Bingham (Utah) in Las Vegas two weeks ago. Radford hasn’t beaten Kahuku since 1985, a span of five straight losses. The Rams haven’t won in Kahuku since 1979

9:22: That’s your ballgame. Kahuku rebounds from its loss to Bingham and improves to 6-0 in OIA play, while Radford drops to 1-6 overall and 1-5 in OIA play.

9:19: Kaonohi Kaniho runs one in from 11 yards out for Kahuku, the extra point is no good. Red Raiders lead 64-0 with 1:23 to go.

9:08: Mosese Mo’o picks off Radford backup quarterback Austin Antoni and the Red Raiders will take over from their own six yard line with about 10:30 left.

FOURTH QUARTER

9:05: End of the third, that was quick. Radford ball to start the fourth.

9:00: Another touchdown for Kahuku after Alapa finds Uluamu Niutupuivaha for a three-yard score. Heffernan’s PAT makes it 58-0 Kahuku with 3:38 to go in the third quarter.

8:56: Third quarter is going as expected. The Red Raiders are running on almost each play and letting the clock run.

THIRD QUARTER

8:25: 51-0 is your score at halftime. Kahuku will receive to start the second half, where running clock will be enabled.

8:22: Kahuku lineman Enokk Vimahi has been ejected for stomping on one of Radford’s players.

8:13: Radford thought they had a safety after Tuisavura muffed a punt near his end zone, but it’s called a touchback with 2:52 left in the second quarter.

8:10: Nawahine punches it in from two yards out for touchdown No. 4 of the day. He now has 121 rushing yards on nine carries. Heffernan’s PAT is good and the Red Raider lead is 51-0 with 3:28 remaining in the second quarter.

8:05: First play of Radford’s drive: Another bad snap, Kahuku recovers at the Radford 17.

8:04: Kahuku goes three-and-out for the first time today. After they punt, Radford takes over from its own 36 with 4:24 left in the half.

8:01: Wright and Cameron Copeland connect for a 41-yard gain but Copeland fumbles and Kahuku takes over from its own 7.


7:55: ADD ANOTHER TOUCHDOWN FOR KAHUKU. Ratu Tuisavura intercepts a pass and takes it into the end zone from about 24 yards out. Heffernan’s PAT is good and Kahuku leads 44-0 with 7:10 left in the half.

7:52: After some big plays being negated by penalties, Kahuku is forced to punt facing fourth-and-long from their own 47. The Rams will take over from their own 27 with 8:06 left in the half.

7:39: Another three-and-out for Radford. Kahuku will take over from its own 35 with 10:55 left in the half.

SECOND QUARTER

7:33: That’s the end of the first quarter here at Kahuku, with the home teaming leading 37-0.

7:31: *Sione Mahe punches it in from four yards out, Heffernan’s extra point is good and the Kahuku lead is 37-0 with 47 seconds left in the first.

7:26: Just a dominating game for the Red Raider defense so far. Another three-and-out causes a Radford punt and Miki Ah You takes the punt 45 yards TO THE HOUSE. Heffernan’s PAT is good, the Kahuku lead is now 30-0 with 1:53 left in the first.

7:18: ANOTHER ONE. Nawahine scores his third touchdown of the day, this time punching it in from three yards out. Heffernan’s PAT is good and Kahuku’s lead is 23-0 with 3:40 left in the first. Nawahine’s line so far: Five rushes for 103 yards and two touchdowns, and one reception for 38 yards and a touchdown.

7:14: Radford goes three-and-out once more. Kahuku has smothered them thus far. Red Raiders get the ball back on Radford’s 45 with 4:49 left in the first.

7:11: Kahuku goes for it on fourth down from Radford’s 11, but they don’t convert after an incompletion. Rams take over with 5:44 left in the first.

7:07: Another three-and-out for Radford. Kahuku’s defense hasn’t let them breathe so far. Red Raiders will start their next possession from Radford’s 30 with 7:29 to go in the first quarter.

7:03: THERE HE GOES AGAIN. Alapa fires a pass to Nawahine, who does the rest and races his way to a 38-yard touchdown. Heffernan’s PAT is good, and it’s now 16-0 with 8:38 to go in the first.

6:59: SAFETY. A bad snap causes Radford quarterback Randy Wright to fall on the ball in the end zone. 9-0, 9:09 left in the first.

6:55: Enoch Nawahine takes a handoff on Kahuku’s first play and he is GONE for a 58-yard touchdown. Impressive breakaway speed on that one. Duke Heffernan‘s PAT is good. Kahuku 7, Radford 0 with 9:33 to go in the first.

6:54. The Red Raiders trot Thorton Alapa out at quarterback to start things off.

6:53: Three-and-out for the Rams. Kahuku will start its first drive from its own 42 with 9:42 left in the first.

6:49: Radford will receive to start things off.

FIRST QUARTER


6:34: Red Raiders quarterback Sol-Jay Maiava was seen throwing passes during warmups. Let’s see how much he plays today, if at all.

6:33 p.m.: Kahuku wins the JV game, 40-0.

    Da pic, Simeon Viera was a beast for Kahuku. His mark for wrestling was a State championship in three different weight classes in three different years. He is a legend.
