Three of the top five teams in the state are in action tonight with a six-game slate on Oahu.

The No. 1 team in the state, and maybe more impressively, the No. 18 team in the country according to USA Today, hosts Campbell tonight at Carleton Weimer Field in a game moved up from Saturday to avoid Hurricane Lester. The Red Raiders ride a 16-game winning streak into a game against a Campbell squad that is one of the only teams that has had some success against the Red Raiders in recent years. The Sabers have won three of the last seven meetings.

History: Kahuku leads 11-4 in Prep Bowl and state championship eras. Campbell has defeated Kahuku in each of the last two games its quarterback threw for more than 150 yards. Kahuku hasn’t had a 100-yard rusher against the Sabers since Kala Latuselu ran for 175 yards in 1999.

Live updates of the 7:30 p.m. kickoff will follow below:

10:34: Harmon Brown gains 25 yards for the Red Raiders. 2:11 left. Running clock.

10:26: Kesi Ah-Hoy intercepts an Ulufale pass and returns it 52 yards for a touchdown. Nihipali-Botelho adds the extra point. Kahuku 44, Campbell 0. 7:20 left in game.

10:21: Vakapuna scores on a 2-yard TD run. Nihipali-Botelho adds the extra point. Kahuku 37, Campbell 0. 10:39 left in game.

10:17: Third quarter ends.

10:15: Campbell’s Jalen Ignatowski intercepts a Maiava pass, but once again, the Sabers can’t move and Kahuku takes over, thanks to a punt block by Ah You. Kahuku is driving.

9:57: Nihipali-Botelho returns a Campbell punt 30 yards and then Harmon Brown scores on a 14-yard touchdown run. Kahuku 30, Campbell 0. 9:28 left in third quarter.

9:53: Second half is underway.

9:45: Kahuku – 102 yards rushing, 24 yards passing for a total of 126 yards from scrimmage.

9:43: Campbell — minus-55 yards rushing and 30 yards passing for minus-25 total yards from scrimmage. Two “rushing” plays were bad snaps for a total of 45 yards lost.

9:42: Homecoming festivities.

9:34: Halftime.

9:32: Vakapuna scored on the next play, a 4-yard TD run. Vakapuna is wearing his third jersey of the night. Started with his usual No. 42, which ripped. Borrowed No. 19 from teammate Morgan Capillan for a few plays and is now wearing No. 41. Nihipali-Botelho kicks the extra point. Kahuku 23, Campbell 0. 5 seconds left in half.

9:30: Maiava hits Royce Pao with a 24-yard pass down the left sideline. Red Raiders have the ball at the Campbell 4.

9:28: On second down, Nihipali-Botelho intercepts his second pass of the night. 30 seconds before halftime.

9:26: Red Raiders punt for a touchback with 1:06 left in half.

9:21: Kahuku’s Miki Ah You — Junior Ah You’s grandson — is making many tackles. Campbell freshman outside linebacker Tyrese Tafai is also making tackles all over the field.

9:17: Sabers punt and Kahuku drives deep into Sabers territory before being stopped on downs by an Adkins-Kupukaa tackle.

9:14: Campbell punts, nut gets the ball back on an Adkins-Kupukaa fumble recovery.

8:57: Campbell loses yardage on two straight plays and then there is a trade of interceptions. Nihipali-Botelho picks off an Ulufale pass and returns it 41 yards. But then, Campbell’s Poki‘i Adkins-Kupukaa returns the favor at the goal line on a Sol-Jay Maiava pass intended for a Pua Falemalu. Adkins-Kupukaa runs it back 62 yards, but the ball is moved back to the Sabers’ 10 due to a penalty.

8:55: Eight plays later, Kahuku’s Elvis Vaka takes an inside reverse 6 yards for a touchdown. Nihipali-Botelho extra point is good. Kahuku 16, Campbell 0. 4:13 to go in the first quarter.

8:51: A trade of fjumbles. Iosua Sevao recovers for Campbell. Samson Reed recovers for Kahuku at the Campbell 35.

8:47: Lots of stuff happening in this rainy “football weather.” The next play, another snap over the head of Ulufale goes all the way back into the end zone. Ulufale pounced on it, but was immediately downed by Miki Ah You for a safety. Kahuku 9, Campbell 0. 9:23 to go first quarter.

8:42: Campbell quarterback Kawika Ulufale connects with Markus Ramos for a 14-yard gain. But on the next play, a high snap results in a 25-yard loss. Kahuku nearly recovered, but Campbell offensive lineman Micah Ah Soon-See jumped on it.

8:41: Kahuku won the JV game 41-21.

8:37: Kahuku’s Stokes Nihipali-Botelho takes the opening kickoff up the right, to the middle and then to the left 84 yards and a touchdown. He then kicks the extra point. Kahuku 7, Campbell 0. 11:42 left in first quarter.

7:29 p.m.: Heavy rains hit at 7 p.m. and the rain has continued since, alternating between light and heavy.

7:28 p.m.: Kahuku is leading the JV game 42-15 with 46 seconds left in the third quarter.

7:27 p.m.: This game will be late starting. The Campbell bus arrived late. The unofficial word is that the late arrival was caused by traffic.

The calm before the storm and like silence in the aloha at Carlton Weimer Field and it’s game time in a matter of hours whereas let the game begin regardless of our puka puka football field or grandfather scoreboard and still we are fortunate that our weather tonight will be OK and without water blasting compromises; good luck to Tata’s Red Raiders and Ammo Amosa Sabers. Enjoy OK RR4L

  15. Pay To Play September 2, 2016 10:11 pm

    @808 RR4L

I hope you’re still around when the RR4L bus goes rambling down the yellow brick road. Looks like you built a huge fan club of all kinds here in HWP. From “cracks on da field” to “cracks in da parking lot” you sound ridiculous.

Looks like the state will be expecting two ILH teams against one OIA. The odds are leaning ILH but anything can happen.

  16. 87 September 2, 2016 10:36 pm

thx for the live updates nick too bad it was rainy and bad conditions, sounds like it was sloppy. wish both offenses had better opportunities to practice execution.

goodluck sabers on the rest of ur season n RR get ready for BG

  17. Good Story September 2, 2016 10:39 pm

Checkyoself, 808 RR4L, 808 RRWhoCarez, Pay To Play, Got17…all the same person. Talking to himself again, what a joke…

  18. AOK September 2, 2016 10:47 pm

    Why is Harmon still in

  19. RRFLbaby September 2, 2016 10:56 pm

I think Harmon was still in because i think for this game, he is technically the 2nd stringer. i beleive Elvis started the game. but with a much smaller roster compared to years past, their isnt that much of drop off from whomever starts to the next man up.

  20. Paper Crane September 2, 2016 11:10 pm

Great game and congrats varsity men like this is what game assignments are all about for every Red Raider whether playing offense, defense, or special teams now that’s our varsity football academic assignments on the field and so again our academics put to the test and the scoreboard rules with the final test scores? Great game management Tata and staff you make Red Raiders Nation proud with happy tears;…mahalo you guys, drive safe and enjoy your victory. RR4L
Kahuku 44 and Campbell 0 (Varsity) Kahuku 41 and Campbell 21 (JV)

How sweet it is for all our RR4L commenters.

  21. Tutu Kane Ale September 2, 2016 11:28 pm

Strange but it always happen after Red Raiders claims game victory whereas them many haters will keep away for 48hrs and some even longer; maybe embarrassed or they’re contemplating on changing their no act name; really they should try the UH Warrior domain
    instead? RR4LE

  22. Paper Crane September 3, 2016 12:47 am

@Tutu Kane Ale; I believe most all the haters are back at their bird nest and like most do not have the stamina to stay up late or they have curfew; yet it’s strange Education First (Grader) and GOT17(IQ) have been without and only silent lately; lets hope they got upgraded to next higher level of learning like the UH Warrior domain?

  23. Got17 September 3, 2016 1:23 am

    @Paper Crane

I think you guys pay more attention on HPW than you did in class. Well at least your vocabulary is growing by reading.

Anyway did I mention on how great the RR played the 2-3 Sabers? Awesome 44-0 victory on a team who beat Kaiser & wormed their way out against Aiea. Schedule & teams respresenting the OIA is looking more impressive every week. Kamehameha gets slaughtered by Punahou which really tells the whole state how weak Waianae is. And the only Kahuku legitimate game to date is against Waianae, seems ironic. But the question is what is the whole state really watching this season? They won’t be tuning into a BG massacre next week that’s for sure. Nor will they be taking into consideration all the excuses the RR fans will carry back with them. The whole state will be watching what’s happening in the ILH because the ILH is all that matters. Its like comparing the SEC & Pac12. STL beats Punahou for the #1 seed & Kahuku will be left with Punahou in their state bracket. Notice that I have not mentioned any more OIA teams because what the critics are complaining about the new format really doesn’t matter. ILH wins states this year.

  24. Paper Crane September 3, 2016 1:54 am

@GOT 17 (IQ); eh you lost, have you no marbles like next week is at Radford and not BG; I don’t and never use spell check cause anything misspelled is like pidgin but you, I wonder if you remember what you’ve written now or previously whereas 17IQ can’t cut it that’s for sure and it shows too,…sad bozo movies you. RR4L

  25. Jerry Campany September 3, 2016 2:08 am

Tutu Kane Ale and Paper Crane, maybe you should buy each other a smoothie. You are arguing from the same IP address. Unko Alvin shares the same one.

  26. Paper Crane September 3, 2016 3:16 am

We legit from one IP; reference the TERMS OF SERVICE read.

  27. 88 September 3, 2016 5:04 am

@Got17 Did I mention how great the Crusaders played the R of Iolani. Awesome 49-7 victory who will make the D2 tourney with maybe 1 win this season. What will be the ILHs excuse when Kahuku wins States again. Can’t waite

  28. Alpha September 3, 2016 6:20 am

Good win for STL & Kahuku, both outcomes were expected. To any RR4L peeps, how did the offense look without Hao?

  29. AUWE September 3, 2016 6:31 am

Gotta admit these comments section is just as or even more entertaining then the games itself!! Just let the kids play, after all that’s what it’s all about anyways?? No need to put other teams down!! Just remember no matter how good you think you are, there’s always somebody out there better then you!!!

  30. AUWE September 3, 2016 6:34 am

@Alpha Honestly, looked like cpl steps in the wrong direction lol….

  31. Hauula93 September 3, 2016 7:26 am

Hao was still on the field last night, but not calling the plays.. Field conditions were bad and whether wasn’t great, but we will b just fine… Saw new formation and only ran the the jumbo package on one series and scored with ease.. Other then that they open up the play book a little… A little sloppy due the a muddy field, but great job…

  32. Got17 September 3, 2016 7:58 am

    @Alpha
    “The offense look without Hao?”

Anyone can call plays in that offense. Dive left & Dive right. And bring in the “Michigan Recruit” to throw a 7 yard hitch a few times than sit him down.

What type of question was that? They played Campbell for crying out loud. SMH

    @88
Yeah & you really failed to notice that all the starters was sitting down in the 2nd quarter. How was that RR game? Still working on their points given up per game stat? Starters all the way through the early 4th? I see “sloppy conditions” seem to be the excuse for an inefficient offense. And don’t be surprised if Iolani makes that “D1 Tournament” seems like they got more will than the Hawaiians on the hill this season. So don’t be throwing down the ILH’s bottom tier D1 teams. I see no potential in Radford, Nanakuli, Kaiser, Aiea or Moanalua. LMAO! Worst part is I see no potential in the 3 other teams that represent the OIA in the state.

  33. 87 September 3, 2016 8:33 am

Not easy to travel all that way out to Kahuku. Hats off to Campbell. RR4L

  34. 808 RR4L September 3, 2016 9:07 am

you know what Got17, you bettah shut yo mouth. WHO YOUR TEAM? TELL THEM COME UP NORTH SHORE BUT THEY NO LIKE AH? CUZ THEY SCARED AH? ALL I HEAR FROM YOU IS JUST STRAIGHT UP HATING AGAINST BIG RED.

HATE US CUZ YOU AINT US BRUH! RR4L! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

GO DRINK BEER AT IMUA LOUNGE WHILE BIG RED PUTS THE HURT ON YOUR TEAM! GO HOME COOK RICE! AHAHAHAHAHA

    HATER!

  35. Alpha September 3, 2016 9:29 am

@Got17…. thanks for your input, i didnt realize it was that easy. I can’t compete with some of you guys with these keyboard comment wars, imma just keep my questions, opinions and perspective coming. Fair answer to a legitimate question. I was just curious if Hao’s absence this year would make a difference if Kahuku was to play St. Louis again.

  36. 87 September 3, 2016 10:23 am

Good question alpha, its like lastyears offense had a very very strong identity, its a good thing to evolve and spread the field but with 2 weeks till gorman i dont know if we need to enter unchartered waters. by postseason yes i think we should be firing well with a balanced offense

  37. 88 September 3, 2016 10:57 am

@Got17 Your right, anybody can play in Kahuku’s offense BUT NO ONE in this State can stop it…. And you fail to realize Kahuku only suits up about 40 something kids. That means everybody rotates in. When the # 2 DB rotates in the starting DB rotates over to Saftey allowing our starting Saftey to rest. 2 plays later the starting DB who is now at Saftey is replaced by the actual starter do he can catch a breather. The same is done at FB, RB, OLINE, DLINE etc….. C’mn man

  38. Manley September 3, 2016 12:10 pm

Lol, a non event game dominated by a troll.

  39. Paper Crane September 3, 2016 7:45 pm

It’s all in fun when posting like nothing personal so we back again after celebrating our Red Raiders victory; all meaning me, the wife and brother like no harm done and we do take turns using one PC/IP since it’s only feasible and not intended to please others; yet only recently an unannounced invasion of privacy toward our comments took place yet fortunately and so honored that this was written in simple, short, in black and white whereas non other written by a prior and one time Honolulu Star Bulletin Copy Editor, like a professional with an Award of Excellence and really only thankful and honored that it didn’t come from some no brainer commenter? For this I share with all you commenters RR or otherwise who use more then one alias surname to write your comments whereas we good to continue under the TERMS OF SERVICE yet for some few, your comments provoke personal attacks; LASTLY, if you can make time to read all of Star-Advertiser’s TERMS OF SERVICE; please do cause I for one did not once but twice and so we good to go; no harm intended just all in fun so enjoy.
