GAME NIGHT 9/15: McKinley/Waialua

The McKinley Tigers will attempt to snap a 29-game losing streak dating back to 2013 when they travel North to take on Waialua in the Bulldogs’ first home game of the season.

9:00: Game over.

8:57: A pass interference penalty against McKinley pushes the ball to the 25. Waialua has just missed a few passes to Hatchie, and ends up driving all the way to the 4.

8:53: Bulldogs backup QB Justyce Lacar completes two passes. A 15-yard McKinley penalty pushes the ball past midfield.

8:48: Lopes-Liutolo scores from 2 yards out. Kick is blocked by Waialua’s Kymani Ayonon. MCKINLEY 22, WAIALUA 0, 1:50 left in game.

8:47: McKinley is driving and knocking on the door again. First and goal at the Bulldogs’ 2 with 1:56 left in the game.

8:37: On fourth and one, Steffany gains 9 yards for a first down at the Waialua 31.

8:35: But McKinley gets the ball back on Samuelu’s second interception of the night.

8:29: There is an exchange of fumbles. First, McKinley’s Emilio Paul gets one. Then, Waialua’s Blitzen Benz recovers one.

8:27: Ezekiel Samuelu makes the Tigers’ fourth interception of the game, but McKinley can’t move and punts. Hatchie and Fuiava both came through with tackles for loss for the Bulldogs.

8:17: Lopes Liutolo rumbles from the Waialua 3 to the 1, but he fumbles. A Waialua player appears to recover and run it out, but he fumbles and the ball is picked up by McKinley lineman Iulio Antonio at the 6. He heads to the right and makes it into the end zone for a touchdown. The extra-point attempt by Huynh is blocked by Hatchie. MCKINLEY 16, WAIALUA 0, 10:41 left in game.

8:10: Steffany picks up two first downs with hard running

8:03: Jonah Stephens catches a 39-yard pass from Koli. Tigers ball at their own 48.

8:00: Hatchie’s punt pins McKinley at its 9.

7:55: A Koli 50-yard pass to Kaiwi Ahina sets up Huyhn’s 24-yard field goal. MCKINLEY 10, WAIALUA 0, 6:51 left in third quarter.

7:48: Wailua gets the first possession of the second half, but Dicion throws his third interception of the game. This time, it’s picked off by Lopes-Liutolo, his second of the night.

7:24: Halftime

7:23: On fourth down and 3 with time winding down and no timeouts, McKinley lines up and just gets the snap off. Nuu Koli, a lefty, is chased by lets go a pass down the middle that is caught by Frank Steffany for a 19-yard touchdown as time runs out in the half. Hieu Huyhn kicks the extra point. MCKINLEY 7, WAIALUA 0, halftime.

7:18: McKinley calls timeout with 45 seconds left in the first half. The Tigers have a second down and 7 at the Waialua 23.

7:16: Bulldogs about to punt from their own end zone. Hatchie gets off a 16-yard punt. Tigers ball at the Bulldogs’ 26.

7:13: Tigers punt for the fourth time.

7:10: After a Waialua first down, McKinley’s Damien Segundo intercepts a Dicion pass. The Tigers have the ball at the Waialua 42.

7:08: Lopes-Liutolo intercepts a Dicion pass at the Waialua 45 and returns it all the way to the Bulldogs’ 9, but he fumbles on the play and Waialua’s Dylan Yadao recovers.

7:04: A Dicion 10-yard pass to Hunter Apau goes for a first down.

6:49: Tackles for loss by Matthan Hatchie and Titus Fuiava and a illegal procedure penalties bring the ball back to the McKinley 38. The drive stalls and the Tigers punt.

6:56: It takes nearly the whole team to tackle McKinley running back Sioeli Lopes-Liutolo as he rumbles for a 20-yard gain around left end to the Bulldogs’ 20.

6:53: A running into the kicker penalty on Waialua brings the ball back. McKinley gets 5 yards on it and now faces a fourth and 1 from the

SECOND QUARTER

6:49: First quarter ends.

6:48: Dicion is stopped for no gain. McKinley ball at its own 48.

6:42: Waialua is on its third possession with no first downs. McKinley has had three possessions and two first downs. Bulldogs face a fourth and 1 from the Waialua 48.

6:36: The defensive battle continues. Waialua punts.

6:29: The Tigers go three and out on their second possession. Waialua takes over on the McKinley 45 after a punt.

6:27: Waialua goes three and out and punt. McKinley ball at its own 15.

6:26: Kyler Dicion is the Waialua quarterback.

6:23: Emilio Lorenzo recovers a fumble for the Bulldogs. It came right after Buchanan’s first completion.

6:21: Nuu Koli has taken a few snaps at quarterback for the Tigers, who are driving, but not past midfield yet.


6:16: Alexandria Buchanan is in at quarterback for the Tigers.
