Kalaheo starts on its 25 and Lapera keeps it for a huge gain. 64 yards. Amazing job by Pearl City’s Justin Pfau to catch him from behind and force a fumble but Kalaheo recovers. Kalaheo has it third-and-1 at the 2 with 29 seconds left. Siulangapo with his second sack moves the ball to the 10. Injury timeout. It’s Tigilau who is shaken up again as he tries to play through. Pressure forces a quick throw and it’s a turnover on downs.

A high snap on a punt forces an incomplete pass by Kalaheo and Pearl City takes over with a chance to score before half. Chargers call timeout with a fourth-and-2 at the Kalaheo 5 with 1:38 on the clock. Mustangs whistled for encroachment and it’s a first down at the 2. Delay of game and then a 7-yard TD pass from Canyon to Quillopo-Jamile. Chargers up 32-0 with 1:30 left until half.

Addy breaks off a 31-yard run and Kalaheo is in Pearl City territory for the first time. Kalaheo gets a first-down run but fumbles at the end and Pearl City takes over.

Pearl City has had a QB throw for more than 100 yards only once so far this season. Canyon at 113 yards already and PC has thrown it on all eight plays. Make that nine. And 10. And 11. And 12. The 13th straight pass play is an 11-yard TD from Canyon to King. King now with five TD catches in his last four games. 20-0, 3:01, Q1.

Kalaheo three-and-out. Any thought of going for it on fourth-and-1 wiped out by a snap infraction.

Junior Makana Canyon at QB for the Chargers. Two incomplete passes and then BOOM. A 50-yard TD on a deep ball to Thomas King down the middle. XP is blocked. 6-0, 8:30, Q1. Fourth straight game with a TD catch for King.

Noa Lapera at QB and Carl Addy at RB. Lapera’s first pass is a 9-yard completion to Jordan Neufeldt. An illegal shift wipes out a second first down and Sione Siulangapo get a sack for Pearl City to force a punt.

Kalaheo won the toss and will receive.

This is also Kalaheo’s first game this season at its “home field.” The lights at Alex Kane Stadium were not working last week but we should be good this week….hopefully.


It looks like five OIA teams in the running for four playoff spots in Division II with Kaimuki, Pearl City, Roosevelt, Kalaheo and Kaiser all at 2-1 or better in the standings. Kalaheo has not made the playoffs since 2012 which is also the last year the Mustangs won more than two games in a season.
