GAME NIGHT 8/26: Kaiser/Radford

Five games on Oahu Friday night are highlighted by the showdown up North between the top two ranked teams in the OIA.

Two teams searching for their first win in OIA play square off at Radford when the Rams host Kaiser.

Series history: Kaiser has won the last three meetings, but the series is tied 9-9. Kaiser has not had a receiver go over 100 yards against Radford since Matt Ching in 2004, but it has had a rusher go over 100 yards in three of the last four meetings. The last three matchups have all been blowouts, with Kaiser winning 48-7, 51-3 and 33-14. Radford’s last win the series was in 2012.


Paul Honda: Kaiser’s Keoni Pangan (six catches, 152 yards, three TDs) has the potential to break out.

10:21—Kaiser 34, Radford 7 FINAL

9:59—Kaiser 34, Radford 7 end 3rd qtr.

9:40—Keoni Pangan intercepts a tipped pass about 4 yards in the end zone, returns it coast to coast for Kaiser’s third pick-six of the third quarter. PAT good. Cougars up 34-7, 4:34 Q3.

9:25—Kaufusi scores his third TD of the night on an 89-yard interception return. PAT good. Kaiser 27, Radford 7, 7:50 Q3.


9:14—Jonah Soakai breaks up the shutout by returning the kickoff 83 yards for a TD. PAT good. Kaiser 20, Radford 7, 10:38 Q3.

9:13—Micah Mashima returns an interception 41 yards for a TD on the third play of the second half. PAT good. Kaiser 20, Radford 0, 10:53 Q3.

8:51—Kaiser 13, Radford 0 halftime. Kaufusi ends his do-everything half with a pass breakup in the end zone on a fourth down pass.

8:45—Kaufusi bulls his way to a 16-yard touchdown run. PAT blocked. Kaiser leads 13-0, :39 Q2.

7:55—Kaiser 7, Radford 0 end 1st qtr. Radford ends the quarter with an interception by Kyle Sudog, who makes a one-handed snag at the Rams 15.

7:29—After a false start on the first play of the game, Kaiser QB Kainoa Torres throws a backward pass to Lincoln Lima who throws a deep ball to Andrew Kaufusi for a 65-yd TD. PAT good. Kaiser up 7-0, 11:51 Q1.


7:24—Kaiser wins the toss and will receive to open the game.

6:50 p.m. — Radford wins the JV game 21-6. Varsity coming up in about 25 minutes in the first game at John E. Velasco Stadium since Oct. 2013.
