GAME NIGHT 8/20: Castle/Mililani

Six more games on Oahu scheduled for Saturday including a couple of afternoon tilts involving neighbor island teams. Let’s get to it.

History: Castle is 2-0 for the first time since 2009, when it won its first three games of the season. Castle leads the all-time series 11-10, but the Trojans have won seven of the last nine. The last meeting was a 37-7 win by Mililani in 2011, but Castle won the previous meeting 28-21 in 2008.

8:51 p.m.:
Less than 2 minutes left, Mililani’s Xavion Kenion intercepts Uyemura-Lee to pretty much wrap it up. Couple of knees. And this game mercifully ends, 42-0 Trojans.


8:43 p.m.: 6:48 to go. Trojans are at the Knights’ 9.

8:40 p.m.: Cy Kuboyama-Hayashi in at QB for the Trojans as we hit the fourth quarter. Mililani running a bunch of backups up the middle, Olomua’s day is probably done.

8:30 p.m.: Ryan Chang catches a 14-yard pass from Gabriel to get into Castle territory. Kila bursts for a 30-yard gain to the Knights’ 4. Kila then scores from 2 yards out with 3:57 left in the third quarter.Santiago kick is good, his sixth extra point. Mililani leads 42-0. It’s another 3 and out for Castle.

8:22 p.m.: Running clock. Uyemura-Lee returns at quarterback. Chris Sakuma makes an 11-yard catch. Darius Muasau sacks Uyemura-Lee. Castle will punt.

8:21 p.m.: Olomua has 126 yards rushing on six carries at the half. He needs to reach 199 to make the school’s top 10 list for a single game, going to be tough with the running clock.


8:00 p.m.:
Mililani loses ball on downs, thanks in part to a sack by Henry Nakamura-McCoy of the Knights. And that will do it for the first half. Mililani rolling.

7:57 p.m.: Smith is sacked by Mililani’s Joshua Banks. 2:04 left before halftime. Mililani just called a timeout. Mercy rule won’t start until the second half. Trojans will have one more possession in the half. 1:41 left.

7:48 p.m.: Kila jitterbugs though the line, does a spin move and shows speed in the open field for a 49-yard touchdown run. Santiago kick is good. Mililani 35, Castle 0. 3:21 left in the second quarter.

7:46 p.m: Mililani has ball at own 40 after a Castle punt. Pass to Valladares goes for 11 yards.

7:43 p.m.: Lights out in press box for third time. Stadium lights still on. Lights back on in press box.
Knights have a fourth down and two from their own 36. 4:04 to go before halftime. We mention the lights so much just because of what happened against Saint Louis with the cancellation because of the stadium lights. Not an issue here today, though.

7:35 p.m.: Cy Kuboyama-Hayashi catches a 34-yard pass down right sideline for 24 yards to Knights’ 34. Kailiohu Kila rushes for 18 yards and then Gabriel hits Roman Tovi for an 11-yard touchdown dart in right corner of end zone. Mililani 28, Castle 0. 6:02 left in second quarter.

7:33 p.m.: Tasi Malepeai — Vavae’s brother — sacks Smith on a fourth down play. First and 10 for Mililani from own 32.

7:31 p.m.: Smith has two defenders on him and unloads a pass to Ulrich Naki for eight yards and first down.

7:29 p.m.: Smith just picked up a ton of yards with a blaze of speed on a run around left end.
It went for 32 yards. Castle ball at the Mililani 40.

7:25 p.m.: Mililani ball at Castle 38. Olomua gains 22 yards on two carries and Andrew Valladares picks up 14 on a pass from Gabriel before Valladares takes an inside reverse for 7 yards (after a false start penalty) and a touchdown. Mililani leads 21-0 with 9:50 left in the second quarter. Makana Smith is in at quarterback for the Knights.

7:24 p.m.: Hilo drives, going six plays all on passes, but forced to punt.


7:23 p.m.: Castle’s Nakamura-McCoy fumbles and Mililani’s Mykah Tuiolemotu recovers. Press box lights just went out, but the stadium lights are on. That also happened during JV game.

7:15 p.m.: 10-yard holding penalty wipes out a 12-yard Andrew Valladares punt return for Mililani. Trojans start at own 15. You had a sense, Mililani was about to bust one, and Jalen Olomua gets through off of right tackle for an 85-yard touchdown run. 11:32 left in second quarter. Santiago, the left-footed place-kicker, boots the extra and Mililani leads 14-0.

7:13 p.m.: Shovel pass by Uyemura-Lee falls incomplete. Castle is punting.

7:12 p.m.: Castle faces a third and six from own 35. End of first quarter. Mililani 7, Castle 0.

7:09 p.m.: Uyemura-Lee hits McGoldrick wtih a an 11-yard pass. First and 10 from the 30. Henry Nakamura-McCoy, a Castle running back, gains 5 yards up the middle.

7:06 p.m.: Mililani punts and Castle takes over for its second possession at its own 15. 2:12 left in first quarter. McGoldrick rushes for 5 yards.

7:05 p.m.: Trojans facing third and long from own 47. Gabriel deep pass underthrown.

7:03 p.m.: Kainalu Wong gains 2 yards to the Castle 45 on fourth down. First and 10 now.

7:01 p.m.: Two runs by Darius Muasau gains 15 yards for Mililani. Trojans facing fourth down and 1 from the Castle 47. Trojans take a delay of game penalty and then call timeout. 3:53 left in the first quarter. wait, no penalty, they canceled the penalty due to the timeout.

6:57 p.m.: Mililani starts at its own 30 after a block in the back penalty on the return.

6:55 p.m.: McGoldrick carry on a double reverse loses 7 yards on third down and Castle punts.

6:52 p.m.: Jeremy McGoldrick middle screen reception for 17 yards, but 12 yards of the gain is lost and the ball is at the Knighs’ 25. McGoldrick then drops a sideline pass at midfield.

6:47 p.m.: We’ll see what Castle has in store on offense. Both teams are undefeated. Castle will start at its own 12. Jaylen Uyemura-Lee is the starting Castle QB. He is a junior quarterback listed as 5-foot-6 and 130 pounds.

6:45 p.m.: Gabriel throws another dart to a receiver, this time to Ryan Chang. He gets hit by Castle’s Chase Nakoa-Young at about the 45 on the left sideline, but Chang keeps on going for an 87-yard touchdown. A flag on the play, but the flag turned out to be a no-call. Chang REALLY sold that rout. Damien Santiago’s kick is good for a 7-0 Mililani lead. 9:32 left in the first quarter.


6:42 p.m.:
Gabriel throws a dart to a streaking Cy Kuboyama-Hayashi for 67 yards to the Castle 3, BUT … called back for personal foul penalty.

6:40 p.m.: Castle won the toss and deferred. Mililani elected to receive. Castle chose makai side of field.
Trojans start at 32. Olomua runs for 5 yards


6:36 p.m.: We are moments away from kickoff. Steady drizzle here at Mililani’s John Kauinana Stadium.

6:39 p.m.: Castle won the toss and deferred. Mililani elected to receive. Castle chose makai side of field.
