GAME NIGHT 8/19: Roosevelt/Pearl City

Pearl City and Roosevelt meet in the second game of a doubleheader tonight at Aloha Stadium in what has always been an entertaining series. The series is tied 7-7-1 but Pearl City has won the last five dating back to a tie in 2007. Roosevelt’s last win over Pearl City was way back in 2002. These teams have never played each other at Aloha Stadium. Roosevelt hasn’t won at Aloha Stadium since beating Aiea in 1992, a span of nine straight losses. Roosevelt hasn’t started a season 2-0 since 2007. Roosevelt hasn’t had a 100-yard rusher since the final game of 2014, when Shaedon Kalei did it, a span of 17 games. Pearl City has not won at Aloha Stadium since 1984, when it beat Campbell 7-0. That is a string of nine straight losses.

Pearl City with a couple of late hits, bad penalties and the Chargers call back-to-back timeouts. All the kids on the field as the coaches use it as a teaching moment.

Tupuola-Fetui with the forced fumble and Rodrigues recovers on the Roosevelt 16.

Chargers take over on Roosevelt 44. A screen on third down to Cooper goes for 21 yards inside the 20. Third-and-goal at the 4. Play action. Asinsin finds Zion Tupuola-Fetui for the 4-yard TD pass. 28-0, 3:13, Q2.

Roosevelt into Pearl City territory for the first time. Fourth-and-3 at the 48. Kekahuna is sacked by Alihikaua Rodrigues.

Makoa Cooper in at RB for second quarter. Roosevelt has the stop as Pearl City tries a reverse on third down but the Rough Riders whistled for a helmet-to-helmet foul. First down at the 35. Asinsin is absolutely PASTED as he throws the ball and it’s so underthrown that Micah Quillopo-Jamile makes the adjustment and comes all the way back to the ball for a 35-yard reception to the 10. Makoa Cooper 2-yard TD run. 21-0, 7:41.

Chargers start on their 15. Carter with 11 carries for 80 yards as quarter ends.

Jared Elwin pops a 9-yard run on third-and-7 for Roosevelt’s first first down. Rough Riders take a delay of game penalty on third-and-short and then can’t pick it up as Zion Tupuola-Fetui tackles Kekahuna. Punt.

Roosevelt’s punter can’t hold the snap and gets it but takes a knee. Chargers ball on the 3. Asinsin with the 1-yard TD run. 14-0 Chargers, 4:50.

Shastyn Kekahuna starts at QB. Rough Riders done in by two false start penalties and go three-and-out.

Isaiah Asinsin starts at QB. Andre Carter at RB. After an incomplete pass on a deep throw, Pearl City runs it nine consecutive times with Carter scoring on a 1-yard TD and picking up 60 rushing yards on the drive.

Chargers will receive.
