9:18: Punivai scores from 4 yards out as time runs out. LEILEHUA 37, CASTLE 19.


9:15: Punivai picks up a first down at the Mules’ 11 with a 5-yard run. 1:34 to go.

9:12: A 20-yard Judd pass to Omengebar brings the ball to the Mules’ 25.

9:08: Punivai’s 11-yard gain moves the ball to the Leilehua 45.

9:04: Punivai is the Knights’ third QB of the night. On second down, he runs for 15 yards and a first down.

9:02: After a Castle punt, the Mules need only two plays to score again. This time, Nichols finds Furtado wide open down a seam on the left side for a 43-yard touchdown. Tom-Makue kicks the extra point. LEILEHUA 37, CASTLE 13, 8:42 left in game.

8:53: Nichols’ 24-yard pass to Ramos sets up Nichols’ 1-yard TD on a QB sneak. Tom-Makue makes the kick. LEILEHUA 30, CASTLE 13, 10:30 left in fourth quarter.

8:48: After the punt, Leilehua takes over on the Castle 42, thanks to an unsportsmanlike penalty against the Knights.

8:46: Castle’s possession bogs down after a Tauasosi sack of Judd. The Knights punt.

8:42: Mules struggling a bit on offense. Can’t pick up a first down. Will punt.

8:38: On third down, Castle backup quarterback Samuel Judd throws a pass that is intercepted by the Mules’ Randen Siavii.

8:35: Castle gets a break after a trade of punts when Leilehua muffs a fair catch. Punivai recovers for Castle at the Leilehua 25.

8:26: Knights can’t gain any traction on their next possession and punt.

8:24: A personal-foul penalty gives Castle the ball at its own 36.

8:21: Two drops leads to Tom-Makue and the field-goal unit, but the 44-yard attempt is no good. Castle ball at the 20.

7:59: On first down, Kahala-Giron is sacked by the Mules’ Jaeden Chow.

7:59: Mules go nowhere and punt.

7:56: Leilehua’s Rulloda-Kim is hurt after a reception and gets carted from the field after a brief delay.


7:50: The drive stalls and Castle will punt.

7:48: Pono Kahala-Giron connects with Kanekulani Kahala-Giron for a 26-yard gain to the Knights’ 36.

7:44: Mules have a fourth and goal from the Knights’ 4. Nichols’ pass to Evans in the right corner of the end zone falls incomplete. Castle ball at the 4.

7:42: Evans catches a 38-yard pass from Nichols to the Castle 2.

7:41: Nichols hits Kalei Akagi in stride for a 43-yard gain.

7:36: Kiaka Pio sacks Kahala-Giron. Knights’ drive stalls at the Mules’ 36.

7:34: A long Punivai runback and a 15-yard penalty gives Castle the ball at the Leilehua 42.

7:32: On first down, Nichols hits Jeremy Evans on a fade route to the right corner for a 5-yard TD. Tom-Makue kicks the extra point. LEILEHUA 23, CASTLE 13, 9:15 left in first half.

7:31: The punter, Punivai, is forced to scramble due to a high punt snap. He gets out of the end zone, but is brought down on the 5. Leilehua ball.

7:30: Tauasosi sacks Kahala-Giron for a 9-yard loss. Castle will punt.

7:26: Furtado runs a precise outside route to the right and Nichols puts it in his hands for what turns out to be a 59-yard touchdown pass. Tom-Makue kicks the extra point. LEILEHUA 16, CASTLE 13, 10:47 left in first half.

7:23: On the Knights’ next possession, Xavier Tauasosi sacks Giron for a 14-yard loss and Castle punts.

7:21: First quarter ends.

7:14: Kalei Akagi gets a step on his defender down the left sideline and Nichols feathers one into his outstretched arms for a 40-yard TD. Akoni Tom-Makue kicks the extra point. CASTLE 13, LEILEHUA 9, 0:36 left in first quarter.

7:13: Dorian Furtado catches a 13-yard pass from Nichols. Mules ball at their own 49.

7:08: Two plays later, Kahala-Giron magically escapes from a sack attempt and scrambles to find Paul Omengebar on the left side. Omengebar finds some blockers and some holes and then outraces the last two defenders to the end zone for an 80-yard touchdown. Costa’s extra-point kick is blocked by Leilehua’s Diamond Larkin. CASTLE 13, LEILEHUA 2, 2:28 left in first quarter.

7:05: Jayzon Ramos hauls in a 21-yard pass from Nichols — to the Castle 9. Two plays later, however, Nichols coughs up the ball and and the Knights’ Paiea Nachor.

7:03: Rayden Rulluda-Kim catches a 15-yard pass from Nichols.

7:02: Cody Akagi runs for 9 yards and again for 8 for a first down at the Castle 40.

6:59: Kahala-Giron is sacked in his end zone by Leilehua’s Jaku Hanohano-Baptista for a safety. CASTLE 7, LEILEHUA 2, 6:14 left in first quarter.

6:58: The Knights start at their 6 and are facing a third down and 14.

6:56: Castle linebacker Keanu Tilton stops Leilehua running back Cody Akagi for a 5-yard loss and the Mules punt.

6:54: Max Nichols in at QB for the Mules, who are facing a fourth down and 1 at the Castle 35. Nichols runs for a first down, but a false start brings the ball back to the 40.

6:52: Costa tries an onside kick, but Leilehua recovers and takes over on the Castle 44.

6:49: On third down and 13, Pono Kahala-Giron finds his brother, Kanekulani Kahala-Giron, down the right sideline for a 23-yard touchdown. Cheyden Costa kicks the extra point. CASTLE 7, LEILEHUA 0, 9:54 to go in the first quarter.

6:42: Senituli Punivai runs back the opening kickoff 50 yards for Castle. On second down, QB Pono Kahala-Giron scrambles for 20 yards to the Leilehua 20.


6:41: Leilehua won the JV game over Castle, 35-13.

    Allowed Sacks, Blocked PAT, Rotating ineffective QBs, Unsportsmanlike conduct, -5 rushing at the half and turning into a team that relies too heavily on one player (Punivai). Castle still has much to do before they become a top contender in the OIA again.
