The marquee affair takes place at Kapolei as the fifth-ranked Hurricanes host the No. 4-ranked Waianae Seariders. We had a little fun this week breaking down how Kapolei can beat Waianae and how Waianae can beat Kapolei. Also on the line tonight is a specially designed war club.

Waianae goes for the deep shot but Tagovailoa-Amosa gets the sack for a loss of 5. Ulu eludes the grasp of Tagovailoa-Amosa on third down and finds Ambrocio streaking out and he manages to get 18 and a first down. Huge play to the Kapolei 45. Moves the chains and keeps clock moving. Rosario back into the game and his first carry on third-and-3 goes for 36 yards to the 2. Ulu 2-yard TD QB sneak. Seariders slamming the door on this one.

Tagovailoa slips as Brandon Hattori comes flying in and it goes down as Waianae’s third sack. Perez with a 17-yard reception to make it 3rd-and-3 but Hattori again tackles Tagovailoa for no gain. Fourth-and-3 and Alvarez-Ranan just can’t quite make the catch. Turnover on downs.

THIRD QUARTER

Waianae feeling it as Braiden Ayala puts a lick on Sarono after a 4-yard catch. Sarono is really only receiver Taulia has right now. And just as I type that, Kaeo Alvarez-Ranan comes up with a big 14-yard reception on third down. First first down of half for Kapolei. Third down again and same route, same throw, same play as Alvarez-Ranan gets 11 into Waianae territory as quarter ends.

No sign of Rosario on the field as Waianae starts on its 32. Towne for 3 yards but now Towne is down and injured. Ambrocio on the option pitch for 9 and Ulu sneaks for 5 and a first. Ulu with the option again and is swallowed but he jumps and pitches to Ambrocio who races down the sidelines, breaks two tackles, and he’s GONE. SEE. YOU. LATER. 57-yard TD run and Waianae has taken control up 14 with 2:47 left in third.

Kapolei starts next drive after ball is kicked out of bounds. Tagovailoa starts half 1-for-4 as Waianae continues to apply pressure. Dreyden-Steele Kawewehi gets first official carry for 1 yard and Tagovailoa misses a throw as it’s another three-and-out.

Waianae starts on own 49. Tagovailoa-Amosa with a TFL but then Ulu hits Atui Valu for 16 yards plus a roughing-the-passer penalty. Ball near the 20. PLAY OF THE NIGHT. Rico Rosario looked dead to rights on a screen pass that Kapolei blew up but he somehow squirted out of there and then dives to the pylon. 23-yard touchdown pass from Ulu to Rosario. What a play. Unfortunately he appears to be hurt and is carried off by his teammates. Ulu is stopped on 2-point run to keep it a one-possession game.

Kapolei three-and-out. Tagovailoa completed last pass for 5 yards but took a hit. Seariders defense wins that battle.

Waianae ball first. runs of 5, 5, 6 and 9. First down and they try to throw but are called for a hold. Had the running game going. Ambrocio for 9 but then another pass is called and it’s another hold. Penalty number 26 combined. Waianae completes one pass but has to punt.

*******

SECOND QUARTER

Tagovailoa completes the first pass to Sarono for 8 yards but a holding penalty kills any Kapolei momentum. Tagovailoa misses receiver over middle on third down. Punt.

Ulu completes two short passes but they throw and miss on 3rd-and-1. Timeout with 52 seconds remaining at the Waianae 45. Pontes-Borje tries to go off tackle but is stopped for no gain. Kapolei ball with 46 ticks remaining.

Kapolei starts on own 33. A holding call allows Waianae to force a three-and-out with 1:38 remaining.

Waianae will start on its 46. Rosario finding some room as he pounds up the middle for 11 and then bounces outside for 17. Ulu goes play-action on 2nd-and-5 and overthrows receiver who is covered well but Tagovailoa-Amosa is called for a late hit on the QB. First-and-goal from the 9. Rosario stuffed twice for 1 yard but they go straight up the gut again and Rosario gets through. 8-yard TD run gives Waianae the lead. Rosario tries to run in the 2-pointer and it’s no good. 15-14, 2:33.

Tagovailoa whistled for intentional grounding in the end zone and it’s a safety. Goes down as Waianae’s second sack. 14-9, 6:07.

Waianae has three runs totaling 22 yards but two bad personal foul calls on Kapolei moves the ball all the way to the Hurricanes 20. Both teams with so many silly penalties. Big third-and-5 on the 15 and Waianae goes play-action. Nice call allows Ulu to make easy throw to Towne for 10 yards to the 5. First-and-goal. Handoff to Sarono and it’s bobbled and on the ground. Tagovailoa-Amosa with the recovery. Big play by the defense as Waianae commits its third turnover.

Kapolei will kick off from the Waianae 30 after two 15-yard penalties. Both teams extremely undisciplined. Gotta onsides kick here and Kapolei does. Christian Broome with the recovery for the Hurricanes at the 19. Tagovailoa sacked by Kanai Mauga. Loss of 7 yards. Mauga is a beast. Kapolei timeout 3rd-and-17 at the 26. Tagovailoa to Sarono, 26-yard TD, 8:57. 14-7.

Unsportsmanlike penalty after the play on Kapolei, which starts from its 10. Quick pass to Sarono as the D closes quick on Taulia. Sarono makes catch but is high-lowed on the tackle by two Waianae guys and slow to get up. Tagovailoa scrambles and hits Wyatt Perez out right who is wide open. He cuts it up and all the way back across the field for a huge gain. Tack on a late hit. Pass goes for 53 yards. A ref is taken out on the play but he’s OK. More crazy as Tagovailoa completes a pass to You who fights for extra yards but them fumbles. Ruled Kapolei recovery and a personal foul on Waianae. Ball on the 8. Now a stop in play. No clue what’s going on again. First-and-goal at the 8. Tagovailoa to Jaymin Sarono for an 8-yard TD pass. 10:03. XP is good. 7-7.

Rosario runs to the 5 and then Ulu tries a QB sneak from the 5 that only gets to the 3. Ulu’s helmet comes off so he has to sit out a play. Pontes-Borje plays the role of QB and hands off to Kade Ambrocio for the 3-yard TD run off the left side behind big Onesimus Clarke. Kick is good. 7-0, 11:20.

FIRST QUARTER

Seariders switch up the looks and get Javen Towne involved. Carries of 8 and 16 yards gets the ball inside the 10 as the quarter ends.

You with the big 14-yard reception on third down. 13 plays, 13 passes. Kapolei tries its first run but looked like a fumbled exchange and Francis Mailo recovers for Waianae.

Short punt and Waianae will start on the Kapolei 29. After a delay of game, Ulu finds Jeresalem Tootoo for 19. They hook up again to get it to the 1 but an illegal shift is called. Kapolei gives it back with an offsides penalty. Ulu flushed out to his left and goes to the end zone and again it’s tipped and again it’s picked off. Mareko, who already has four tackles, now has a pick. Kapolei ball at the 20.

So Kapolei starts at its own 1 after all of that. Sarono makes a nice catch near the sideline but is ruled out of bounds and then Tagovailoa avoids a possible safety throwing the ball away on the run. Seariders bringing the pressure. Third-and-10. Tagovailoa misfires and it’s a three-and-out on the Kapolei 1. Tagovailoa 3-9, 27 yds after first two drives.

Seariders start on their own 20 and get off to a good start running the ball. Three carries net 14 yards but a false-start penalty is followed up by an incomplete pass going deep. Third-and-11 and Rosario picks up 5 but Omar Mareko with his second big tackle of the drive to force a punt. NO! Jorell Pontes-Borje fakes the punt and rumbles down the sideline for 15 yards. First down Seariders. Waianae moves the chains running but then a holding call followed by a dumb late-hit penalty on an OL kills the drive. Second-and-24 and Ulu is drilled from behind by Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa. Mareko with the recovery. Kapolei ball. NOPE. Check that. A defensive holding is called. Yet the ball is spotted at the 30. No idea. Ulu fires deep and off a tip it is intercepted. Leonard Lee gets the pick off the deflection.

Four penalties in first five plays of the game. Kapolei might need some help blocking Kanai Mauga but Tagovailoa finds Sam You for 17 yards. First third-and-long and Tagovailoa tries to dump it off but it’s dropped. Wouldn’t have gained much. Mauga and the Waianae defense are getting a lot of pressure early. Punt is away.

Waianae will kick off. Here we go.

Looks like LB Jaylen Gonsalves (shoulder) is suited up and will play for Waianae.
CAPTAINS
Waianae: Jaren Ulu, Jaylen Gonsalves
Kapolei: Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa, Omar Mareko, Akoni Kapihe

    Good job June Jones

How about that like Kapolei Varsity should have played the Waianae JV; no matter what June Jones needs to retire and stop kidding himself and whoever bit the hook with his can do dream promises.
