GAME NIGHT 10/19: Punahou/Kamehameha

No. 2 Punahou 35, No. 8 Kamehameha 0, FINAL

Punahou’s second series of the second half: Brady is sacked again, and that’s five sacks since halftime. He leaves the game and Muasau, who played late in the first half returns. He’s sharp. He finds Eldredge on a deep sideline route for 40 yards, and caps the drive with a 5-yard strike to Falatea on a slant route for a TD. PUNAHOU 35, KAMEHAMEHA 0, :57, Q3.

Kamehameha’s first series of the second half: the Warrior pick up a first down, but will punt after a sack.

Punahou is content to mix up the run and pass, no rush at all. But Kamehameha’s defense hasn’t let up. The Warriors sack Brady four times during Punahou’s first drive of the second half. Punahou punts, but not before taking 8 minutes and 6 seconds off the clock.

Kamehameha’s defense has forced Punahou to stick with conservative pass choices for the most part, but the offensive miscues have been tumultuous. Punahou stalls on two drives in the second quarter, including one led by backup QB Kobe Muasau. But with 1:05 left in the first half and the ball on the Kamehameha 44, Muasau guides the Buffanblu on a three-play scoring drive. He connects with Moku Dancil-Evans for seven yards, then Eldredge for 17 more and finally, Kanoa Kalahiki on a rollout to the right for a 20-yard TD. PUNAHOU 28, KAMEHAMEHA 0, :26, Q2.
———-
This is the quarter from Halloween hell for Kamehameha. Four plays into their fourth series, another fumble. This time it’s recovered by Kaulana Makaula, who promptly twirls the ball on the ground and is called for unsportsmanlike conduct. The quarter ends with a punt by Punahou, its first three-and-out, ball downed at the Kamehameha 31.

First snap of Kamehameha’s third series is an out-route pass that is picked off by LB Trent Shiraki for a 48-yard pick-6. WOW. That’s three turnovers by Kamehameha, three TDs for Punahou. PUNAHOU 21, KAMEHAMEHA 0, 2:40, Q1.

Huge break for Punahou as Kamehameha muffs a bouncing punt. Buffanblu ball at the Kamehameha 11-yard line. Second down, Brady’s play-action pass to Eldredge on a post pattern is a 12-yard TD. PUNAHOU 14, KAMEHAMEHA 0, 3:34, Q2.

Touchback on the opening kickoff. Kamehameha’s first snap from scrimmage is a fumble on the handoff exchange, recovered by Punahou at the Warriors’ 25. Five plays later, Hugh Brady lofts a 7-yard TD pass to Koa Eldredge, who tiptoes the right side of the end zone and gives Punahou the lead. PUNAHOU 7, KAMEHAMEHA 0, 10:29, Q1.
