GAME NIGHT 10/13: Kaimuki/Pearl City

Pearl City gets to play this game at home after beating the Bulldogs 17-15 in the regular season. The winner advances to the OIA Division II title game on Thursday, Oct. 26, at Aloha Stadium. The Bulldogs have been to the playoffs all three years under current coach David Tautofi. Pearl City is in the playoffs for the second straight season.

After an incompletion, Tupuola-Fetui bats a pass to bring up third-and-10. Encroachment on Pearl CIty, third-and-5. Seei-Cleveland spins out of a tackle but is stopped short. Solomon converts on fourth and 1. Kyle Viyavong in at QB for Kaimuki. He keeps for 5. Solomon back in and his deep ball is too long. 1:39 left. Solomon complete to Viyavong for 6 and a first down at the 46. Paulsson Solomon with a sack for a loss of 2. Kaimuki takes its last timeout with 1:13 left, second-and-12 from the 44. Deep throw is tipped away, third down. Seei-Cleveland with an 18-yard reception to the Pearl City 38 to keep Kaimuki alive. He catches a short pass for 4 and is stopped inbounds. Kaimuki spikes, bringing up fourth-and-6 at the PC 34. Timeout Pearl City, 22 seconds left. Pass complete to Mahiai to the 18. Spike and a pass is broken up, 8 seconds left. Solomon to Seei-Cleveland across the middle. He’s stopped at the 7 as time expires. Pearl City survives and advances.

 

Asinsin takes a loss of 4 and Carter is stopped for no gain. Kaimuki timeout before third-and-14 with 3:49 left. Carter picks up 5 and Kaimuki calls another timeout with 3:43 left. Tupuola-Fetui punt fielded at the Kaimuki 25 and Kikuyama makes the tackle, 3:32 left.

Seei-Cleveland takes a swing pass 17 yards to the 32. Kikuyama with a sack on third down brings up fourth and 15 from the 37. Deep pass is well covered and incomplete. Pearl City ball with 4:37 left.

Holding on first down sets the Chargers back to the 16. Quillopo-Jamile recovers his own fumble on receiver screen. Pearl City punts. Kaimuki ball at the PC 49, 6:40 left.

Naomas Asuega-Fualaau returns the punt to the 47. Seei-Cleveland picks up a first down on two carries for 11 yards. He gets open on a wheel route for a 10-yard completion on third-and-5. Kasey Kikuyama makes his second tackle for loss of the drive and an incomplete pass brings up fourth-and-10 from the Pearl City 28. Tupuola-Fetui bats down the pass and Pearl City takes over. 9:03 left.

Carter stopped for gain of 2 and a loss of 1 and Asinsin is sacked for a loss of 4 on the final play of the third quarter.

A holding penalty pushes Kaimuki back and a sack by Kobe Jackson brings up third-and-20 from the Bulldogs’ 29. Jackson injured on the play. Pass to Seei-Cleveland falls incomplete and Kaimuki punts. Chargers’ ball at their 48, 1:30 Q3.

Kaimuki goes three-and-out and punts again.  Pearl City ball at its 23, 4:37 Q3. Chargers also can’t get anything going and punt it back. Kaimuki ball at its 39, 2:45 Q3.

After a false start, two Kaimuki runs net 6 yards and a lateral results in a loss of 7. Bulldogs line up to punt from their end zone, but Pearl City takes timeout first. Po’okela Moses-Espanto fields the punt at the 31, angles to the left and finds a lane to the end zone. TOUCHDOWN PEARL CITY. PAT good. 5:49 Q3.


Pearl City receives the kickoff and picks up a first down on two 6 yard runs.  Asinsin has a long run called back then keeps it again for 16. Carter picks up another first down on two carries. Asinsin throws over the middle and it’s picked off by Castillo at the Kaimuki 8. 8:15 Q3.

Chargers run out the clock and a penalty-filled first half ends with the teams still scoreless.

Bulldogs try a reverse on first down but an illegal block moves the ball back to the 29. Mana Mahiai takes a hitch pass and runs over a defender for a 12-yard gain. Chargers allow just 3 more yards and the Bulldogs line up for a 31-yard field goal. Timeout Pearl City, 1:00 left. The kick is short and Pearl City takes over.

Asinsin’s first-down pass is intercepted by Matthew Williams, who returns it down the sideline 26 yards to the Pearl City 12. 3:24 Q2.

Illegal shift on first down for Kaimuki sets up the Bulldogs’ third punt.  Illegal block on Pearl City pushes the Chargers back to their 22. 3:35 Q2.

Asinsin completes a pass to Micah Quillopo-Jamile for 18 yards, but a sack and a holding call force another punt. The kick is miffed but the Bulldogs recover at their 28 with 5:57 left in the half.

Chopblock on Pearl City gives Kaimuki a first down. Solomon hit hard as he completes a swing pass to Seei-Cleveland for 8 yards on the final play of the first quarter. Solomon leaves for two plays, comes back for third and 3. Make that third-and-8 after a false start. Solomon completes a pass over the middle for a first down, but yet another flag brings it back. Timeout Kaimuki before third-and-13. Solomon hits Saburban Castillo for 14 yards and a first down. Facemask on Pearl City gives Kaimuki another third-down conversion. But Solomon’s next throw is picked off by Kody Kikuyama. Chargers ball at their 31.

Andre Carter picks up a first down with an 11 yard run on third down. Chargers execute a double-pass for a TD, but illegal procedure brings it back. Zameer Kahn’s 46-yard FG attempt is short and Kaimuki takes over.

Two short throws and Solomon’s sneak gives Kaimuki its first first down. Bulldogs running to the left early on, away from Pearl City DE Zion Tupuola-Fetui. Tupuola-Fetui still makes the stop on third-and-11. Kaimuki punt is blocked by Kasey Kikuyama and the Chargers recover at the Kaimuki 46.

Pearl City QB Isaiah Asinsin picks up 20 on a keeper. Andre Carter’s long run is called back due to holding and the Chargers punt.

Ieke Seei-Cleveland picks up 5 on first down, then 8, but it’s called back due to an illegal shift. Jordan Solomon’s third-down scramble comes up short. Bulldogs punt.

Kaimuki wins the toss and receives the opening kickoff.


Looks like Pearl City running back Makoa Cooper is not suited up for the game. Cooper leads the Chargers with 581 yards and nine touchdowns.

Pearl City defeats Kaimuki 33-17 the JV game to advance to the OIA D-II championship against the Waipahu-Roosevelt winner. Varsity coming up about 7:35 p.m.
