GAME NIGHT 10/13: Castle/Damien

Damien 26, Castle 10, FINAL

———-
8:31: That’ll do ‘er.

8:23: Logan Lauti ices the win for Damien with a very nice, elusive run for 32 yards … and a penalty for taunting. Lauti with the TD hat trick tonight as part of his 25 rushes for 175 yards.

8:16: Castle gives it right back, as Pakele lines up at quarterback for maybe the first time ever. He keeps it … and fumbles. Damien ball at its own 35.

8:15: Damien can’t do anything with it and punts it backed up deep. Castle takes over at Damien’s 35 with 6:28 remaining.

8:14: Castle ALMOST has another huge fourth-down pickup, but Kahoopii ducks out of bounds 2 yards short of the first down marker after a 15-yard pickup. He might’ve been able to lay out for that one.

8:05: Huge fourth down conversion by Punivai, who scrambles all over the place then finds Jonah Figueroa for a 24 yard pickup. Knights get pushed back from the red zone, though, and call timeout facing fourth and 17.

7:59: Third quarter ends with Castle facing a fourth and inches at the Castle 41.

7:54: Jake Holtz goes fade route to the left corner of the end zone, where he finds Lindon Sevilleja, who makes a nice catch as he’s brought to the turf for 13 yards. XP is good and Damien is back up 10. That was just the third completed pass of the night by Damien.

7:52: Logan Lauti has eclipsed 100 yards rushing for Damien.

7:49: Castle’s alternating backfield formations seem to get crossed up this time and Punivai is dropped for a loss of 6 on a handoff. Castle goes three-and-out and Damien takes over at the Castle 33 after a short punt.

7:47: It’s a botched handoff by Damien in the red zone, recovered by Castle’s Keanu Tilton. Third lost fumble by Damien tonight.

7:43: Raiden Wong, who has two fumble recovers tonight, limps off gingerly. Damien on the move into Knights territory. A heave deep by Holtz draws a pass interference, and it’s up to the 33.

7:38: Castle goes back to Punivai at wildcat to finish the job on the drive. He gets it to the 2 on third down, then hands off to Bruce Pakele on fourth and goal for the 2-yard score. XP is good by Makana Kiakona and Castle is within 13-10.

7:33: It’s still Kahoopii at quarterback for Castle, with Punivai shifted over to running back. Castle knocking at the door.

7:32: Raiden Wong recovers his second fumble of the game, as Jake Holtz fumbles it while scrambling. Castle has it at the Damien 26.

7:29: Castle kicks off to Damien to open the second half.

7:14: Senituli Punivai has 93 yards on 19 carries at halftime. For Damien, Logan Lauti has both scores, 81 yards on 11 carries.

7:12: Kahoopii completes his first three passes of the game, in succession, to get the Knights up to the 34. Wildcat-style QB Senituli Punivai has shifted back over to running back, for now. Anyway, time runs out on Castle and Damien takes its 10-point lead into halftime.

7:04: Jake Holtz takes a shot deep, incomplete. Damien punts with 1:43 left in the half. Castle has it on is 14.

6:57: Castle punts it and Damien returns it to its own 37. It has 4:44 to add to its lead before halftime.

6:51: Lauti is in for a touchdown for the second time tonight, this time from 14 yards. He hot-dogs it a bit on the way in, and XP is good this time for the 13-3 lead.

6:43: Logan Lauti tears off a huge return on the ensuing kickoff, to the Castle 35.

6:43: Costa is good from 38 yards, and Castle has halved its deficit to 6-3. Knights have been giving opportunities to Mana Kahoopii at quarterback, but so far he’s 0-for-3.

6:39: First quarter ends in Castle’s possession at the Damien 33.

6:31: Castle kicker Cheyden Costa is wide on a 44-yard field goal. Damien comes marching the other way but River Iaea fumbles it at the line of scrimmage and Castle’s Raiden Wong recovers. Knights into Monarch territory late 1Q.

6:20: Damien capitalizes on its excellent position. Quarterback Jake Holtz and running back Aperamo Sulu get it into the red zone in a few plays and Logan Lauti weaves up the middle for the 8-yard touchdown. The Knights get a piece of the low PAT attempt and it’s blocked. 6-0 Monarchs.

6:12: It’s Senituli Punivai at QB for the Knights. He’s dropped for a loss on second and third down and Castle has to punt from near its goal line. Damien starts its first drive in excellent position at the Castle 39.

6:09: We’re underway. Visiting Damien kicks off to Castle in Kaneohe.

5:55: Damien coach Eddie Klaneski says pregame that he’s down a few starters from injuries last week. The Monarchs, who are already eliminated from postseason contention, are playing to honor their seniors tonight.
