Akana steps up to lead St. Francis football

Kip Akana, who has led the St. Francis intermediate team since 2012, was selected as the school’s new varsity football coach on Friday.

Akana went 13-7 with the intermediate team, including an unbeaten 7-0 season in 2013.

He replaces Mike Ulufale, who went winless in the program’s first two years. Ulufale resigned last week.

Akana was the ILH Division II coach of the year in baseball this season for leading the Saints to an 8-7 record and third-place finish.
