2011 prep football all-star teams

Kahuku's Benneton Fonua brings down Leilehua quarterback Kenan Sadanaga during first-half action of the HHSAA Division I Semifinal football game between the Kahuku Red Raiders and the Leilehua Mighty Mules on Friday, November 18, 2011 at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu. (Jamm Aquino/Honolulu Star-Advertiser).

After a ruling was handed down regarding the use of an ineligible player that ended Kahuku’s 2010 season, the Red Raiders bounced back the following season to win the 2011 state title under coach of the year Reggie Torres.

Red Raiders linebacker Benny Fonua won a super-close vote for the Star-Advertiser defensive player of the year honors over teammate Kawehena Johnson, Punahou defensive lineman DeForest Buckner, Campbell linebacker Giovanni Stevenson and Leilehua teammates Russell Siavii and Penitito Melei.

Leilehua quarterback Kenan Sadanaga was the offensive player of the year after becoming the fifth quarterback to top 3,000 passing yards in a season. Sadanaga threw for 3,098 yards and 41 touchdowns.

The six underclassmen to make the first team this season is an impressive bunch — Kahuku’s Johnson, offensive lineman John Wa’a and running back Aofaga Wily, Farrington running back Tyler Taumua, Waianae defensive tackle Kennedy Tulimasealii and Punahou linebacker Isaac Savaiinaea.

Hey Jerry, know you mentioned before that the league All Stars is not included because the year is of recent vintage but in the future, if you could include that (ILH, OIA) that would be great!
